IW Boat Races Towards Prize

"A LUXURY boat designed and produced on the Island is in the running for a top award.
Two years ago, Bembridge Outboards started producing its own design of luxury sports cuddy rib called Shearwater ribs.
The company teamed up with Island firms J. Shirlaw for the upholstery and AA Combes for the teak work, giving the craft a high-quality finish.
“We had some very good reviews over the last year from four of the major magazines and have sent boats as far as Athens and Melbourne, Australia,” said Jim Robinson, who runs family firm Bembridge Outboards.
He received a call from Motor Boat and Yachting Monthly / Motor Boat Monthly just before Christmas saying the boat had been shortlisted in the motor boat of the year awards 2008 and was invited to the finals at Claridges in London on January 14.
“It is very exciting news, we were up against boats from Europe and America. Whatever the outcome, it has been a great boost to all of us and we have already taken orders from the back of it,” said Mr Robinson.
