Interesting Little Thing?

When a new Dry Stack customer said they were bringing a 5.4m inboard diesel RIB to us, we did kind of think that maybe they had it wrong - but sure enough it arrived. Thought it might be interesting?

It's an SR 5.4m with a Mercruiser 100hp inboard diesel. Apparently the MOD ordered 6 of them (at £65K each!!!!!!!) and then after receiving the first 3 decided they were not big enough for what they wanted so just moth balled the next 3 and then sold them. This one has just 14hrs on the engine, a S/Steel 5-blade prop, shock mitigation seats, self-righting equipment etc. Having given her a quick test, she seems to be a cracking little boat.

Anyone seen anything similar?

what a rare boat. Looks great. Glad to see willk is on black shadow watch. Those critters are breeding and need a cull.

If £65k, what have they been bought/sold at? whilst a great boat, you wouldn't want to pay that much.

Great looking RIB.

Gotta love the MOD and their track-record on capital expenditure and project management. That's a bit like me convincing my wife that we sell both our cars and instead purchase a people carrier with every factory-fitted option we can think of... drive it for the weekend, then decide that it's actually too big for what we want and sell it, losing thousands in the process.

I'm sure that there will be a patrol or two on interceptor duties around Scottish waters late August too

Inside track

Hi This has come from a good source
The reason the MOD bought into this inboard boat was to replace the 5.4 models with petrol motors in them as they are banning petrol on board ships soon.

The trouble with them as I am told is when you load them up with say 8 people they are almost underwater !

The little 5.4 was not really designed for inboard motor + potentially 8 matlows....

I think someone in Avon hit the wrong keys on the displacement calculations computer box....

I wonder if he paid the full inflated price that the guy in Plymouth was asking for it?
