Insurance renewal costs

Hi Chaps,

I've just received my insurance renewal notice for £10,000 at £233.70 from Mardon Insurance Brokers. Sounds ok to me but have you guys any experience with other brokers who, are competitive. Names and tel No's would be great !!

Interesting letter just received from my insurers, Colin Curtis and Partners, Plymouth 01752 664649, regarding a premium hike for all marine insurance. Basically there have been more claims in the last 2 years than in any other period. This has forced a substantial number of smaller insurers out of business.
Ring them and see what they can offer.

Cheers

Thanks to Jono and Charles. I will call both numbers. Charles, intrestingly you comments were echoed by my broker. They advised that Marine insurance used to be a pretty claim free area however, in the past 2/3 trs they have seen a large upsurge in claims. My premium has risen 20%. I'll let the forum know how I get on.

Jono, Steve undercut my present insurer by £6.00 which is better than a kick up the bum. However, as I'm sure you'd agree it's better the devil you know so I'll stick with this one unless PIC come back with something all together better. Thanks anyway.

Intermarine is the one I use and quote of £525 for £25k just received. Best get PB2/Adv as this seems to reduce premiums as does if you have a BSAC qualification for boat handling or the BWSF SBDA.

Mine's £328 with Colin Curtis - It was the best quote I got, recommended by Charles, and they were able to customise the cover to my requirements (12 months in commission and Brest to Elbe cruising). They are also use reputable underwriters. PIC were also very close - quoted £348.

Haven't visited either Brest or Elbe yet

PIC v MARDON

Hi Guys

I like pic because your actually a person, however with mardon just another policy number.

Steve, who owns PIC, is a member of the Portcawl Lifeboat and he also races Zapcats and knows what hes talking about when it comes to RIBs. But then you could phone Mardon because the lady at the other end sounds nice.

Your Choice.

Whilst I agree that having level 2/ICC can reduce your policy cost do be very careful about the wording of the policy. I saw a policy a while back that expected anyone that helmed the boat to have level 2, potentially this meant that when a friend helmed under your supervision then technically the boat may not have been insured.

Ideally the policy should give you the discount but the stipulation be that the person helming must be competant (rather than qualified) therefore giving you a bit more freedom

Ditto,

Craftinsure was the cheapest for me. about 20% less than PIC or Mardon.
