Hypalon Failure Fix

On my Nautica, the Hypalon is starting to fail on the cone. What is the best option to fix this? I am thinking to seal the inside of the cone with sealant and paint, or use some type of sealant on the outside of the cone to fix it.

This will be the last year these tubes will be in service before they are replaced. The starboard side tubes don’t leak at all, but this cone needs some love bad!

RIBase
Avoid painting them - that's not going to do anything. If it's simply to get another year from them, then, remove all the neoprene outer coating, and completely patch over with new hypalon fabric, and overlap onto a solid part of the sponson tube. Use correct 2-part glue. Preparation is everything, so sand, degrease, etc. You're in Florida - so getting decent temperature shouldn't be an issue, however watch humidity levels or glue will bloom.

Have you gotten a new quote for the replacement set of tubes yet? I have a buddy in San Diego who had new one made about 2 years ago give or take. Happy to connect you guys.

Regarding the repair; it's hard to tell on my screen the extent of the damage, but I would call Paul Wright to take a look at them - he is in Orange County as well. If anyone can repair it and help extend the life of the tubes, it's him. His cell is (714) 552-0759 and here is his website https://www.wrightrepair.com/

Post a few pics of the repair and I can help point you in the right direction. I will say though that I an NOT a fan of the coatings. Not many good ones out there that will actually last... especially below the waterline. Feel free to shoot me a PM and I'll send you my cell.

Paul just sealed the tubes internally, there isnt anything diffirent on the outside aside from what is pictured. I ordered some liquid rubber from West marine I am picking up today. Again, this is not "repair" this is just to keep the tube from peeling further from its current point. The tubes, no doubt, will need to be replaced, but they are holding air now.

Although they hold air, the chances of those tubes blowing out is very high. I would recommend putting a layer of PVC over the top using Stabond 2 part adhesive. It can bond to both the Hypalon and the PVC without issues. NRS supply has everything needed, but it is NOT a simple job.
