Humber re-tube for boat left on mooring...

Has any one had a retube by Humber.
I'm looking at getting them to do my SR5.4 for two reasons:

First and most important is that they're only 75 miles from my house,
Second, they have provided the cheapest quote so far.

I've been on a few Humbers and the quality seems good enough.

I'm going to be leaving my RIB on a mooring all year and it'll dry out on sand during the summer and mud/rocks during winter.
Should I go for Heavy duty tubes or get normal tubes with protection on?

I'll also need some sort of fairlead, I like the look of whats on the Atlantics.
The rest is normal Humber stuff like lifelines and grab handles.

Anyone got any thoughts suggestions?

Thanks

Phill

What bad experience did you have with Humber?

Whilst Henshaws are good its a 6 hour drive for me oppose to the 2.5 hour to Humber.

How long do they need the boat for?

Although a great fan of Henshaws I also found Eurocraft in Leyland did a good job on my Osprey and they seemed to have sorted out their attention to detail which was a bit suspect for a while.

I've emailed Eurocraft so will let you know what they come back with.
I think its down to Humber or Eurocraft purely for the distance.

Hi Chewy

Both of those are good, either could do my boat.

If you are putting her on a swinging mooring I would recommend you put the main load straight to the D ring on the outside of the bow, run a second back up inside if you want but keep the load of it

RIBase
I'd talk to Henshaws still. They are extremely helpful and I suspect their shop floor manager has more experience of sr5.4s than anyone other than a current Avon employee.

In that case, their price could be quite competitive

Just spoke to Henshaws.

£3500 all in, fitted with extra protection for drying out, fair lead, lifelines and two handles on the back.
Can't believe I considered anyone else, Chris knows his stuff. I never realised Henshaws did the MOD and Halmatic boats, they even have some been shipped out to the US.

Thanks for help lads, I'm sold!

Chewy,

My boat had lived on a mooring for a while before I got it, and I also have two lengths of extra wear patch running along the hull / toob join from about a meter back form the bow right up to the cone at the stern. Needless to say it's visually quite trashed, but the toobs underneath in the small areas I've peeled it back are in pretty good nick so can totally reccommend it if you are grounding a lot. One thing to watch tho' - keep an eye on the inboard (keel) side edge of that patch - there's a fair amount of water pressure trying to force it off when you're on the move. (which is why I know the toobs underneath mine are in good nick!)

I'm anti fouling the tubes below the water line and using Meguairs Wax on the rest.
Hopefully this should keep em in good nick?

Agreed did a very good job of fixing my Pacific when we blew out a rear cone. Walking around the factory (once we had found it) was quite an eye opener. They had a new set of very heavy duty dark grey Atlantic 22 tubes undergoing a 24 hour pressure test at the time. Chris (who posts on here) caught me drooling over them

Lol, I looked in my PM's at a quote I got off Paul and rang him today. We had quite an indepth chat and he was willing to talk me through fitting the tubes myself. This wasn't an option due to lack of a workshop.

He did say it'd be worth finding a localish retuber to fit them for me so this might be the way forward.

I'm still open to options but found Paul very easy to talk to and when I mentioned fitting a tube mounted fairlead he explained I'd be better with a painter attached to the D ring, thus saving me a fair bit off cash.

I'll try get some decent photos of the SR this weekend and get the old tubes removed.
