why not rig a rope to a motor at the top of the beach...
controls on your decking and a bucket for the money
they pay / you press button / you carry on drinking your G&T

If they were really in a jam and the tide was on the in, surely they would've unhitched the trailer and made for shore?

Lash a rope to the trailer, before leaving, wait for it to float and then haul it closer from the relative safety of the beach?

Or maybe I'm being a bit fik?...
