How much Glue?

I have 10 wear patches to glue to the tops of my tubes, the tubes and patches are both hypalon.

I've done plenty of gluing in the past, and have had some very good results using Polymarine 2 part adhesive on some tricky repairs.

Although I've done stuff like patches, added handles, and even replaced valve assemblies on pre-cut discs of hypalon, the most I've glued in one go before was 2 wear patches of a sililar size to these. But I can't remember how much adhesive I got through.

Each of the 10 patches is 400 x 300mm, and of course will need priming and second coating with the adhesive, so I'm going to have to order up quite a large amount.

Can anyone give me an accurate estimate of how much adhesive I'll need?

10 patches, 400mm x 300mm
or 1.2M2 in total.

Ta!

nasher, you should be able to do it with about half a litre (unless Paul Tiley contradicts me. ) If you can get some thinners that will help the application process. Theres a good tob guy in Portsmouth at Camber docks ( Ibelieve) or Kieron at Ribshop might have thinners but you don't ned a lot of thinners maybe 5%

Nasher, since your not after an air tight seal or lots of strength for wear patches it might be cheaper just to buy a large tin of evostick, pour a small amount into a shallow tray and use an old paint brush which will give you a nice thin layer, alternatively I have used those foam paitning pads with good results.

Thanks all

Downhilldai

Would that be the same as just the one drink - in a glass the size of a bucket

Pete
Hadn't thought of using normal evostick, will have to try a sample first to make sure nothing melts.
I'm also going to give Polymarine a call when I get a chance during working hours, as they were very helpful recently when I repaired the smaller Nashers PVC sib.

What a bit like that blue Solent Rib that went in for tube repairs and 3 months later had puntures in all 5 compartments that went flat in an afternoon. Ribnet should have a discussion about professionals

Nasher.
When I visited the Avon factory a few years ago the smell in there was exactly the same as Evostick - a glue sniffers delight!!!

No, I advised Evostick didn't I? it was all we could readily get hold of back in the days when all the rib owners knew each other personally

Codders, the new Evostick doesn't have quite the smell you would be used to, think they have changed the spec to make it less effective to sniff. Still sticks well though.
