Holiday with Rib

After some ideas please.

Looking to book our summer holiday with my wife 5 year old son and our 6m Rib.

We have done Gosport & Lymington with the rib in previous couple years and Poole without the rib.

Was after ideas where best to take the Rib next as we loved Lymington visiting iow etc but having done so from Gosport too we feel we have done iow now.

All ideas welcome anywhere in the country [emoji1303]

In all seriousness if he is travelling from the “Deep South” then it’s a heck of a journey with a boat in tow and kids in the car. N Wales might be more manageable. Alternatively if you’re only used to the South Coast even the firth of Clyde feels like another world, and Largs will be a good 2-3hrs less driving!

With smaller kids it’s generally best not to be over ambitious. You need to leave them wanting more, not bored, cold or scared. I’d save the more adventurous and more distant destinations until the wean is more likely to appreciate it, and head to the West Country.

Salcombe, Dartmouth, Plymouth, Fowey all have great facilities and offer lots of options to suit different conditions.

It’s not about distance on the water, and mini adventures are often the best days out. Don’t underestimate the attraction of using the RIB to go to a beach, find a crabbing spot, or just to go shopping or get an ice cream!

Stay in the boating paradise of Salcombe and you are also within easy reach of Dartmouth, Brixham or Plymouth by sea or road (then free to launch) however the fancy takes you.

What type of accomodation are you after?

We've done this at Torquay which worked well as we then stayed on a local holiday park which gave the kids plenty to do off water.

Plymouth gives plenty of cruising options as does Fowey or Falmouth alongside things to do off water / rainy days.

Stayed twice now at Falmouth with the boat at Mylor. Works a treat.

Yuk ............ yes, Torbay is fine but all the holiday parks are sh1te and I live here !

Renting a cottage in the South Hams, or other parts of South Devon is probably the way forward .......... plenty of very decent holiday lets and some with river frontage.
