HIN Numbers

Can anyone tell me when manufacturers started using HIN numbers in the UK ?

Hin numbers became mandatory in June 98 when CE marking became compulsory, allthough most manufacturers used their own version for many years before it came into force.

I joined the forum last year and have been very much an observer - not quite like the same as famous footballers fetishes though !!
I might even try getting round to posting a photo of my grp and hypalon love on the forum next ??
Great site though - keeps me smiling and occupied during slower/lower moments at work
