HELP! Breakdown on Mull.

I know this is a long shot but you never know!

Arrived on Mull (by ferry)on Friday with my family and Rib for a week exploring the area. All was well until I tried to drive forward to reposition the trailer on the slip and I lost drive. Managed to get a tow to pull the whole lot back up the slip. Local garage diagnosed a faulty transfer switch. Ordered replacement and garage 'might' be able to try and fit on Thursday. They're very busy. Car stuck in high gear so can drive around carpark but won't take a load.

Managed to get a tourist to hook up and launch the boat so we had some sort of holiday, as can't tour by road.

Anyway, I'm working on assumption that the whole lot will need to be recovered back to Fife. Currently booked on ferry Friday(5th Aug). Is there by any chance any local or visiting members nearby that could help recover the boat back onto the trailer thursday, or wednesday in Tobermory.

Boat is a Humber 6.3

Thanks

Gav

Hi Gav. What a dilemma!. I’d start by talking to the guys around the marina or the local Harbour Association located there. In places like that, there is always someone who knows somebody. Most fellow boaters are more than willing to help if they can. I certainly would if I was there. Failing that, you could always leave the boat in the marina or on a swinging mooring if there is availability, until your car is sorted and you can get back to pick up. Good luck.

Thanks, plan is to do that if we can. It's not a full on marina here. More a stop for visiting yachts. Slip is straight into a busy public carpark. If need be I'll just have to leave boat here until car can be sorted. Thing that complicates most is that the ferry is fully booked most days at this time of year.

Just in case any help ,were not talking about the pin selector between low and high range on a discovery that gets stuck mid way and you need to clamber about underneath with a can of wd40 ,probhably not helpful but happened to me on levington slipway years ago ,and a guy mended it on the slip

Maybe ask the lads at the garage if they know of a friendly tow vehicle owner that would appreciate a few beer vouchers? Or wander down to the RNLI at the north end of the seafront on training night? The "Harbour master" marina bloke might be helpful, but somehow I fear not...

In any event - be ready to move smartish when you get an offer. Peeps in "holiday" ports are tortured with requests for assistance and are very conscious of the old adage "no good deed goes unpunished".
