General leisure use should be ok ,but motorcycle helmets can be too large and cause neck problems if large volumes of water are hitting the wearer at speed the fabric lining also seems to rot as well with saltwater,
Some skate board or cycle helmets Don't seem bad infact some swift water flood rescue teams are using them .and there's nothing to rot often if stainless rivits holding the chin straps are used .

When it's rainy and cold, when you're young and need a bit of security, when you're old and need a bit of comfort, when you've done the console taste test after a stuffing and don't need the bother of another trip to the dentist...

Actually, I was asking what the reason was for wanting a helmet, as in, comfort, protection, racing or what?

Or after a bad landing
Thats when the cost of a Gecko with a full face visor doesn't seem so bad

To a search for skydiving helmets, that's how Geko really got going and expect they'll be others that maybe suitable, although most will have a nice lining.

Erm, I wasn't actually asking you, It was aimed at the person who made the enquiry.

I have a sixsixone down hill bike helmet with removable washable inner liner, it has a much wider field of vision than a motor bike helmet and dosent water log like they do, it does have a peak however; there is the argument that any peak on a helmet could catch the water should you be ejected at high speed and cause neck injury if it catches the water first. I have had plenty of impacts with it and never had an issue.
The sixsixone does have exposed rivets which over time will corrode in salt water. I've felt in the past that the geko is slighty too open in the eye area hence i went for the sixsixone. The peak is removable if need be.
The geko is purpose made for the job and you will only have to buy it once, I have seen a geko take a big impact and break the jaw guard but it did it's job well and the wearer was fine if a little shaken.
If I was choosing again it would be a geko, you pay for what you get the sixsixone was only £50 but I'll probably have to buy it twice.
Hope this helps.
