hard collar ribs

has anyone any experience with hard collar ribs? i met a guy from washington who had a s.a.f.e.boat built in washington that had an alum. hull with a hard foam "d" shape collar. the collar is very durable and easy to repair. they are being used in a lot of commercial applications in the u.s. thanks chris

I heard that such collars eventually get waterlogged with the attendant problems that that brings. As you can't dry it out, you must then replace the whole collar. My understanding is that this type of collar is OK for SOME commercial applications but is not for your average Joe.
