Giving up ribbing

Giving up ribbing but not giving up boating.

Purchased a Ranieri 15 with 50hp Suzuki. Hope I've done the right thing, not entirely sure a change was needed. Already I'm not confident to manoeuvre the thing by hand, must be right on the limit for unbraked trailers. A foot wider and the same longer, it looks a lot more seaworthy, I wonder how it compares to a rib?

More sea worthy than a rib

Just don’t stuff the bow

Might need to visit a weigh bridge

Good call on the weighbridge.
Did my dory & braked trailer a few years ago normally loaded as for going on holiday & it came as something of a surprise!
Used a local weighbridge - 'civic amenities' site aka tip - & IIRC it was a £5 & I got a printout which I carry in the car in case I ever get stopped.

There's a few things that need attention. Not sure the engine is set at the right height and a hydrofoil is fitted. Not sure if to keep it or not. The trailer suspension looks tired and it's got a 1 piece axle. There's a Scottish company fraserbrown engineering that specialise and can fully refurb axles, replace and upgrade the rubber cords cheaply (got this tip from a caravanning forum).
It needs a new prop but will need a few outings to see if the pitch needs to change at the same time.
Am looking out for replacement plotter and fishfinder now.

if its an unbraked trailer the axles aren't expensive

Don't want to harp on about it but worthwhile knowing that the combined weight of the boat, engine, all the stuff you would usually have on it when towing and the trailer itself is below 750kg for an unbraked trailer.

As HDAV says, might be better just replacing the axle.
The old suspension units on mine (braked) were badly corroded from the inside where the rubber cords are & there wasn't a lot of metal left!
Years of dipping in salt water by the previous owner.
Be interesting to see what sort of money the refurbisher is talking about & what it would cost carriage both ways Notts to Scotland.
