Looks like the boat is finiashed though - I'll ask the helm later from GAFIRS to see how it ended u.

A Motor Cruiser is currently on fire in the Solent and in danger of explosion.

Solent Coastguard received a Mayday call at approximately 4:30pm from the one of the two crew aboard a 35foot Motor Cruiser Lynx Effect reporting they had a fire on board in the engine space, and needed assistance. They were anchored in Stokes Bay.

Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue Services (GAFIRS) were requested to launch their independent lifeboat and four Police boats were tasked to the scene. Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service are currently standing by at the GAFIRS slipway and the Police are assisting with a 200metre exclusion zone that has been put in place. Coastguard Rescue Officers from Hill Head are on scene assisting with the exclusion zone.

Paul Marlow, Watch Officer, Solent Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre, says:

The two people aboard are safe and well and are currently on one of the police boats. We know there are two gas bottles on board one of which has exploded and we are awaiting the second to explode before approaching the vessel and dealing with the fire.

Re Fire on Lynx Effect

The Independent Lifeboat operated by the Gosport & fareham Inshore Rescue Service (GAFIRS) was paged by Solent Coastguard at 1630, Gosport Rescue One launched ten minutes later and was quickly onscene, the two persons from the Sealine 34 had been transferred to the MOD Police launch, we confirmed that no medical attention was required. Coastguard requested that we return to our slipway and pick up fire crew from Hants Fire & Rescue. With two of their team onboard along with firefighting equipment GR1 returned to the scene. The fire officer requested a 200m exclusion zone be set up due to the risk of exploding gas bottles and the additional hazard of some 1000 litres of diesel.

QHM Portsmouth despatched the tug Powerfull to the scene, on arrival it started to douse the flames with a significant amount of water.

With less than four feet of the bow section remaining and the rest of the hull burnt to the water line the vessel finally sunk at 1900.
