Fuel Filter/Water Separator in Console

I’m back at the fitting out of my Rib, I’m going for as clean a look as I can achieve so everything is being hidden inside steering console and jockey seat.

The only place I can find for the fuel filter is inside the passenger seat console, unfortunately the battery is also in there. Battery is in a plastic tray, there’s no room for a battery box.

The sensible side of my brain is telling me this is a non starter, in fact I already had it fitted in there and removed it thinking it was a bad idea. I’ve been trawling the usual places for pictures and it turns out that a lot of people do have the filter in the console along with battery/electrics.

Any thoughts?

Mine is over the bilge but I agree plenty have them in consoles. I’d be fine with it I think if I knew there was a flow of air so any escaping fumes had a way out

If you ever envisage changing or draining a filter while "operational" then I'd suggest an alternative location. If you move to the transom, a man of your capabilities could run up a very neat stainless mesh guard, open top and bottom...

Wilk, I actually made up a hose to attach to the bottom of the filter drain so it can be drained to the outside of console.

Heres the discussion i had re same ,note mine was ribcraft supplied coded to the scots enviro pro agency ,so between those three one would suggest "perfect " however Seamark Nunn did move it when they fitted honda 100

My filter is in the console with my battery. Honestly, I wouldn't even contemplate trying to drain the filter at sea. Mine is on a tight as a gnat's chaff.

I'm happy where it is. The alternative could be under the jockey before the bulkhead to the console. Definately not on the transom literally rotting before your eyes.

Should point out the battery is in a battery box, and the console door is vented during trips.

If I was starting from scratch on a fit out, this is the filter I would fit. All my filters on various boats have been inside the console, along side the battery. I have one of these mounted on the transom of our SIB.

Well, it's back in the console. Some of the finest kitted out boats on here seem to have the filter in the console so that'll do for me.
