Flip Camera

Evening.

im looking for a flip style HD camera to use next weekend on the rib. want to be able to record some decent video fottage on towing a fellow forum member in a ringo.

i saw an early flip model a few years ago but know nothing about them. i know the hero HD cameras give really good pics but looking for something a bit more hand held for this!

looking to spend about £200 tops really.

Any suggestions??

Cheers
Zippy.

ps. if i get him off the ringo i promise to post it here first!!

Flip HD

I wanted something similar a while back and and narrowed it down to the
Panasonic DMC FT2 or the Kodak Zx1
Both waterproof so ideal for a rib.
I ended up getting the Panasonic as it was a little more versatile (and more expensive) - very happy with it - takes great HD videos and even better stills.

The Flip camera is what I use, see gallery for posted video and quality. One button start stop so easy to use, about £70-80 to buy.

I just bought one of these:
http://www.actioncameras.co.uk/X170

Its waterproof, mounts on my A-frame, has loads of mounting options, has a remote control gizmo you keep in your pocket, gives remarkably steady and clear and wide angle shots, and, oh, you can rotate the lens so you always get your film "upright".

Cost me only £150 cause I bought it at a biker show (OK, the IOM TT).

My son's got the GoPro hero cam.

That has tube mounts so will go on the A frame or screen rail. There's no screen so no framing is possible but the results are very good and it comes with a waterproof housing good for 30m.

He's got the flat lens bit looks like they only do the wide now which is a shame but the results are still very good.

Also how long do the batteries last for?

having watched your Vid Brian I reckon the two camera recommendations are aimed at different ways of videoing the RIB action.
The fixed camera videos the deck and forward view, the Flip is ideal for just puting in the pocket and taking short videos for making into short movies of a trip.
I tend to use the flip as the second version and use this instead of taking pics of a day.
Depends what you want which is best.

Highttower,

I really dont think you can use the internal memory.
I just tried it and it beeps at me!
I use a 2gb card which will last about 30mins, a 4gb, about an hour.

Its the screen display that uses batteries up. Mine have lasted about 3 hours now, and still going strong, but this is because I set the camera to turn off the sreen after 20 secs.

I've been pondering the purchase of a Kodak Playsport for filming the Quad Biking I do these days. It's waterproof and does HD. Would seem perhaps to be a good alternative to a Flip for RIB use?

http://shop.kodak.co.uk/store/ekcons...ctID.170164000

Incidentally, they are $149+tax here in Canada vs. GBP 129 in UK. (So thats about GBP110 at todays exchange rate.)
