Farewell

Well folks,

I sold my RIB a few years back, and have now taken the plunge and bought a fibreglass boat. The wife said I wasn't allowed another RIB, as in her opinion they aren't 'Family Friendly' I, of course disagree, but it was either a solid boat or no boat!

It seems a shame - but there don't seem any equivalent forums for motor boaters like this one. They seem heavy on the pompous side, and a lot less fun than this forum.

thanks for all the help and advice over the years - i've had my fair share of questions answered by you guys.

See you on the water,

Si

Hi Simon - we'd been out for a blast from Stonehaven a few years back on your Tornado. It's now our regular launch-site (crowds permitted) going as far south as Montrose.

If you're into fishing, then WSF site is pretty decent and they have a boat forum on there. Some poor bu**er is ripping up his floor as we speak. Boats are boats!

Yes I remember our little outing! I'm a lot more adventurous these days - We live in St Cyrus now, so last time i took the boat down there from Stoney so my daughter could see our house from the sea. Next trip will be from Stonehaven, North to Aberdeen to see if there are any dolphins in the bay.

'Crowds permitting' There's nothing like a sunny day at Stonehaven harbour, to make or break a reputation whilst reversing down the slipway with a sea of drunken spectators.

It's not a RIB though... i'll continue to lurk and may ask for the odd bit of advice... but I wouldn't want to be the one guy on a fibreglass boat at a RIB cruise... i'd be the ugly duckling!

You'll find a lot of people who've moved on to other types of boating still use Ribnet as a resource and participate.

The only other site that comes close for tech help etc is the Practical Boat owner section of YBW.com, but it's mainly rag and stick type stuff.

As others have said, no need to go, it's a broad church on here, and your experience might help out some else.

Enjoy your new boat, pop up a picture when you can.

Of course you wife is correct, you must be family friendly. You really must have a 'tender' for safety reasons.... maybe a little SIB or something

Already got a little Avon!! I bought it years ago thinking "one day i'll need this" it takes a 4hp outboard and i've got an old relic of a 1980's evinrude which i'll use on it!

I have to admit I'm wondering how that's less family friendly than a rib...!

New boat looks fun!
My other half originally said she would never get on board anything smaller than a cruise ship. Now we have a 7.5m grp boat with a decent cabin and the obligatory w/c. It's great fun when we take family out and for sleep-overs.
But.... I bought my little rib for times when she doesn't want to go out but I do. Its a different kind of fun! I actually use it far more than the bigger boat, so the purchase is easily justifiable!

Same here. It won’t ride as well as a RIB & will hurt more when head meets GRP sides.

It looks a nice boat, and in my younger years I was Fletcher mad and couldn't see what all the fuss was about re Ribs, then when one popped up that I couldn't say no to - I got it.

I had two, and then I got a boat with sails, now back to a Rib that I plan never to sell it.

I hope you and your family enjoy your new boat. That's the main thing after all.

A boat is a powered cork, what would you like to know about your eyecatching watercraft that would like to ask ? This is a great boating forum to leave...

Happy Boating

It's family friendly if the family likes fun.
