Ex RNLI D Class £500!

I found an ex RNLI D Class for sale and knocked them down from £1500 to £500 but then I found my Y class so its still for sale for just £500

I'll post some pics but the first one to say I'll have it gets the guys phone number

It's located in Frinton on sea and you will need a trailer that will fit a 5m sib

If poss i would like to see this kept on the forum and not just sold on for a proffit.

The D class and Y class are no longer available so this is a piece of history

I'll start posting the pics

Is that a modified wooden one piece floorboard, pic 2 shows white stripes on upper left tube, are those abrassion issues ?

Going by the chalk mark on the transom i think D473 was used after station operational service for a while as a crew capsize training boat visiting stations around the country
named originally (Thomas Jefferson ) when first placed on station.

That's if it is 473 & I haven't misread it lol

The main floorboard is a single piece of plywood (not sure of exact thickness but it is > 25mm) - this is the original floorboard for this boat, not a modification.

Can't see any abrasion issues from a quick look through the photos - not sure which photo number you are referring to as pic2?

Cheers

Chris

Check posted pic, yellow parentesis. Is it some kind of abrassion or fabric peeling off on upper tube or just a pic issue ? There's another towards bow on same tube side.

Does look rather nice, and I'm even sitting in the Sea Cadet Offshore training centre at Walton on the Naze just along the road right now...

Sadly not sure I can justify another boat!

I know - I've always fancied a D-class or Y-class as well!

I was debating whether or not it could be made to fit in the back of a LWB Land Rover...

There was one for sale last year along here in Titchmarsh Marina that I did have a peek at, but at that time was really looking for a larger RIB.

I keep saying I should sell the TomKat I've got sitting in the garage anyway - that doesn't get used enough to justify another inflatable toy!

As a matter of interest used to get the earlier version (Zodiac )D Class into the back of a ford sierra estate car with the main board & oars going on the roof rack ,though it was a slightly lighter build to the Later Avon type.
What you may find is if its getting deflated and rolled up regular say to go into the back of a car if your not carefull the bow recessed valve mouldings can get strained out of shape which can cause the rubber mouldings to crack causing air to start weeping out , rolling it up starting with the transom helps though ,

y boat goes with ease into the back of my Zafira along with the main board that i unbolted & seperated into 2 parts along with engine oars & full kit .

Thanks - that is very interesting! So I could relatively easily transport it back from Frinton to Poole...

If only I could justify having another boat!
