Custom Avon SR6 Build Thread

Hi everyone! I’m a new member on this form and I’m just beginning to tackle an extensive restoration of an Avon SR6 RIB. About 15 or 20 years ago this boat was customized and restored. It was a great boat in it’s day but it has been completely abandon in the weeds for the past 7 to 10 years and needs major help bringing it back to life. I purchased this boat for a very fair price considering it needs new power, the entire deck needs to be replaced, all electronics and wiring will be replaced, bilge pumps are shot, fuel tanks need to be replaced, tubes need to be replaced, bottom paint will be stripped, and the trailer will be refurbished. Tons of work ahead of me but I’m looking forward to executing this restoration at a very high level of detail to make sure she stays in great shape for many years to come.

I will start uploading details and new ideas in the coming weeks. The 225 Merc as a newer powerhead and racing outdrive with a cleaver prop. Planning to get that up and running and sell it off to finance new power. Can’t wait to hear new ideas from others as well so feel free to comment as this build progresses. Here are some pics …

So far, the plan is to refurbish the trailer so I can move this thing around throughout the build. Trailer improvements include a new Fulton F2 two speed winch, new Optronix LED trailer lights, 2” pvc pylon guides with Libra LED lights on top of each pylon, all new Anchor tinned wire and connectors, an 8’ long 7-pin trailer whip with new junction box so I can home run all wiring back to the box and get most of the connections out of the water.

Since the deck of the boat is shot I’m planning to remove everything on the boat, cut the entire thing off and use it as a template for a new foam core deck. Then I can build new fuel tanks and run new fill and vent lines so the fuel fills easier.
