Crusing in Cornwall

I am going down to stay with some friends at Rock in Cornwall, do any of you guys have any idea what the cruising is like down the Coast towards Newquay?

Also any good cruises up or down the coast nice harbours to stop off at?

Chris

North cornish coast

The north coast is absolutely fantastic , both up and down from Rock area .
Its very exposed and the sea state can change quickly . beaches are fantastic but there is usually quite a bit of surf .

Rock to newquay , there isn't anywhere to get ashore unless its very calm and you can beach .

Heading up the coast there is Port Quin where its possible to launch and port Isaac has a decent harbour and shelter / pub etc . next and quite a way on is Boscastle .
All the inner harbours dry out . so a little tender is useful as is a good anchor.

Watch out for badly marked lines of lobster pots , they seem to be everywhere .

Its not a stretch of coast I would be happy on without company of another boat , or at least a decent auxiliary engine . Other boats are usually few and far between so if you have a problem help can be a long time coming .
having said that the N coast for me is still the most awesome piece of coastline I have ever seen from the water , every headland is jaw dropping and reveals yet another different stretch of very wild coast .
Post when you are going iam sure some of the Cornish ribbers would join you for a cruise .

I concur with he from up East. The North coast is stunning, but fairly 'hardcore'. As long as you choose your launch/recovery sites accordingly you'll be fine. It would be very unlikely that you be able to land on any of the beaches on that coast owing to the surf. Don't forget that the south coast is only 18 miles away and that's some of the best boating in the country.

I don't think Chris has ever been out on the north coast, I keep trying to get him to come to Hayle, but he seems to think he needs an Armed escort...
