Cruise from Holland to ribex show

hello people
Some friends and I want to cruise to ribex show 2002 from the Netherlands.
We are going with 4 or 5 ribs.(all longer then 6m)
Does somebody know the best route to do it?
We want to leave from IJmuiden (west of the Netherlands)
Are there people who want to join us?
and do you have some tips for us?
greetings.
Niels

Hi Niels

I know the route very well.

The shortest route is to cross direct from Holland to anywhere off of the South Coast of England then follow the coast along to Southampton.
This isn't nessesary the easiest way!!!
Depending on the weather I have found it better to follow the French coast along until you can just about make out England which is around Dungeness, then cross and follow the coast to Southampton.

Unfortunatly I cannot make it but have fun

PS it is about 200 miles and you can get petrol in Nuiewport,Eastbourne, Brighton, Hayling Island and Southampton on the quayside

But if they go to Ramsgate they will be going back on themselves and in the wrong direction!

that depends...........

surely another option would be to head directly from Ijmuiden to Ramsgate & then follow the coast round to Soton? All weather dependent of course!

Too many sand bars and shallow water's on the other side. It can be bloody awful in the middle even on a good day. I have done this route dozens of times and you realy need to get shelter from the Northerly's that come down. The other side of the channel isnt too bad on a beam sea and as it narrows out you can head West. Ramsgate is a good harbour but it is not on the track from Holland.
