Craftinsure changes or issues? Alternatives

Hi now My Delta refurb is on the water its probably about time I got it insured. My go to has always been Craftinsure, had good experience with them & made a couple of large claims in the last 15 years which they handled very fairly. I'm aware they recently changed hands & often changes like that aren't for the better. Anyone had any recent claims experience or any good reasons to go elsewhere that might be better or more competitive.

I’ve just had my renewal while away under the last month with the previous crew. At a glance cover looks the same spec but about 15% dearer. Needs a closer look around the “left moored” rules though.

No harm in getting a couple of quotes to find best value.

I find Porthcawl very good and competitive....other insurers are available.

I had a ribeye a683 stolen from a mooring last year. Towergate Marine passed the investigation, attempted recovery and loss adjustment to CClaims who were very thorough. This year with the new one I called a lot of companies with a particular requirement of full insurance on the mooring and when in boatyard. The boatyard requirement has caused me to change after finding out that most companies will not insure when on land without a wheel clamp regardless if the boatyard is secured. Hence causing an issue in winter storage. I would recommend calling a few. I eventually went with GJWDirect.com

We a have since built our own mooring alarm / detection / tracker. We are still talking to insurance companies to secure a discount.

Been with Craftinsure coming up for 20 years. No claims, thankfully. Have paid additional premium to keep the boat on a mooring on the west coast periodically, otherwise launch and retrieve.

This year’s premium has gone up 17%. Don’t suppose that’s any different to home or car insurance, which rarely drops. Don’t even get me started on protected no claims.

I agree, being bought over will be strategic to reduce the competition.
