When I bought my old SR4 from 1992, it was in good condition but in need of a good clean. I used something similar, I can’t remember what and the tubes came up like new.
After that it was just car wash and wax after every use and the odd coat of wax.

If they are really bad you’ll want to start with something more aggressive such as toluene or MEK.

Traffic film remover is very similar to Rib Revive / August race etc and less than half the price. Apply to wet tubes and scrub with soft green 3M pad:

In the wrong hands, solvents can make things worse. Caveat Emptor

I’m sure on the wrong hands anything can make things worse.

I certainly wouldn't be using either of those for general cleaning.

Neither would I, but to restore I would.

Think it should be made a little clearer its ok using solvents but they should be the last stage in a renovation process after the worst of the dirt is gone.
Solvents soften & remove small amounts of the top surface which leaves a nice clean look, however if used while lots of dirt remains on the tube you basically melt the dirt into the tubes and it us very hard to remove.
Imho solvents should only be used as a last ditch effort during a major refurbishment & not for general cleaning & then only after all other methods have been used

Thanks Guys, I will steer clear of the solvents for now and give the rib revive a go as I need some glue and other bits, so will save a few £'s on the postage.
