I haven’t got an engine lined up yet, but I’m thinking a 4 stroke 50hp, used but under 5 years old. It’s rated to 50hp so don’t really want to go over that for the insurance.

Which manufacturer did you buy from?

Are they arranging freight or are you and is it LCL?

I got it from Qingdao Yacht Industry & Trade Co. So far they seem very helpful and responsive. They’re arranging all the shipping. Included in the price is a box to encase the entire boat and trailer so it’ll be sharing a container.

Listen carefully..... (no disrespect intended)

Have you actually got a full price for freight to your door?

What they will normally do is quote for:

- Freight to the port
- Port fees
- Taxes

They usually do not include the actual freight fees for on the ship which will be something like US$50 per CBM and I’m assuming it will be around 7-8cbm with trailer.

They will use an agent that will get it to the port of London or whatever, then you will be liable for all the port fees at your end, along with the taxes. They can’t possibly know what those taxes are as they are at your end.

I would strongly advise to check what they have offered you and you may find this is all missing. Then call a freight company from your end and ask for a quote for LCL Qingdao, including all taxes and fees, delivered to your door or nearest depot.

Apologies if you’ve covered this, however it is highly likely that you may be caught out by this

The companies that I dealt with, quoted a low freight price and told me that shipping per CBM was “free.” Yes, it was “free” for them, however I would have had to pick up the tab at the other end.

In the end, I got a quote from my end to get the boat picked up from the factory and shipped all the way to my door. The other issue was that I had was that the freight company wasn’t happy to take the crate that they built, because it had metal “feet” that they said would damage the floor of the container. They were part correct... the feet actually broke off. Funny how experience works like that!

Thanks Ausaviator, really appreciate your input as you are the one with the experience.

I will raise this with them to find out what the (incredible) $600 shipping charge includes. They've actually said that they may need to hold off shipping for a couple of weeks as shipping prices are high at the moment due to a shortage of shipping containers (sounds like a scam line, but BBC actually have done a short article on this and I'm not concerned), so if I wanted them to ship now they would need to revise the $600 upward to adjust for this.

I'm planning on collecting from the port myself as I have a lorry driver friend, but I'm expecting VAT, and import duty this end. On the shipping side, I am kind of expecting some additional charges to pop up as $600 did sound too good to be true.

Hi
This is what I know.
Last year in June to ship a 40ft container from China to southampton including port handling fees worked out at around $2800 dollars, that’s 40ft fully loaded that was subject to vat at 20% on top but I am vat registered so had no issue with vat ,we normal ship about two 40 ft containers per month.
Now let’s come forward to February 5th 2021
The same product in container same size weight same ports
Same bloody ship $22000 dollars
That’s a increase of $19200
There are lots of reasons why this has happened which I could boar you with but to much to type.
So just watch out big time on shipping costs this year from China they have increased 1000% this increase will likely be short term but it’s a show stopper that won’t likely change in 2 weeks
Double check triple check quadruple check shipping costs

I've just been quoted £5700 for a FCL 20' container Quingdao-London

My prices were quoted in dollors and for a 40ft fcl
My agent is quoting us $9200 for 20ft
So not to much difference on the exchange rate

A 20ft container to Melbourne Australia with a transit time of 18 days (for comparison purposes) from Qingdao port, is US$3,700 including all possible costs. Delivered to my door, not including 10% GST on the boat itself.

Is this a recent quote because shipping fees worldwide have gone up 1000%
We could get last year 20ft for about 1700 us dollors
Shipped China southampton Uk
The reason for the increase is basically supply and demand
Due to corna virus the demand for shipping at present is out stripping the spaces on ships and port handling slots as well
Are scares

Just had a look at their range and see they do a SIB with floor similar to the Excel Volaire... they call it their Air model... about halfway through the linked brochure above.

Shown in this video around 1min16secs in camo.

Hi Alex, certainly looks the part. How much does it cost delivered? Did you do the deal through their office in Latvia?

At 58kg it is very interesting, makes it just a manageable weight for one.

Anyone know the difference between PVC 1100g/m2 and Hytex Decitex 1670?

Hi Steve, I went through an Irish agent. In retrospect, I should have priced direct and through Latvia just to check. Either way, it was well priced and seems to have good reviews.

Honda couldn't get any Honwaves in for the foreseeable so I decided to go full Aluminium rib.
