I was thinking that the reaction to the total lack of life jackets in this film was a bit - let's just say zealous- then the KIDS get in without them!! Mine don't get on the pontoon without theirs, let alone the boat...... Not good....

Brilliant, just watched the video and was about to post about life jackets, then scrolled down and there it was in all its glory, already done. Still this post still counts, right?

PS, I like the rib too. If at any point you feel you need one to be used on the North Kent coast as much as possible to try and drum up trade, i'd be happy to help

Dear people
Maybe it is difficult to believe but in The Netherlands life jackets are not required by law. Strangly enough you only have to have them on board. Killcords are required ofcourse and we always wear them. For the film we decided not to wear lifejackets because we wanted a more lifestyle feeling. Just look at promo films on other companies which selll superyacht tenders and you will see the same.

The topspeed of this X8.5 is 64knots. This client wanted a easy to drive tender, so we built it as he wanted. We can also make it go faster but then you need a different setup and an expert driver etc.. We build our RIB exactly to the customers needs.
So please don't think that the dutch are irresponsible.

By the way, yes it was fresh water and my Volvo is still good!

Thanks for that - Glad you like the 34 - we're going to do a twin Verado 300 for a customer on the 34 and we've also been asked to look at doing one with the 350's on, looking forward to seeing how fast they go!

Even harder to believe is that in the UK, where most of those criticising you are from, you don't even need to have them (or any other safety equipment) on board!

Of course common sense would suggest you should have them on - but if you had worn manual jackets the critics here would have been none the wiser but you probably would only have been marginally safer given the likelihood of being in a fit state to pull the cord following ejection at 60 knots.

Was Jimmy Savile a sanctimonious preacher with his slogan 'Clunk click, every trip', I thought we had moved on,,,,,,,,,,,,

All this has detracted from what I can only describe as fantastic looking boats, that I would love and dream of owning, but if you feel free to advertise your wares on an open forum, then you are fair game for any replies, sanctimonious or not.
Passengers travelling at 63 knots in an open boat, whether 'life style' or not, accidently thrown from deck and rendered unconscious without self inflating life jackets, is IMHO just unthinkable.
Perhaps you could move this post to a fresh thread, under the heading 'Merits of Life jackets',as it was not my intention to slight anybody.

Nope. There are half a dozen people all waving the "how dare you not wear lifejackets" banner on here. You weren't even the first so don't take it so personally.

Any views expressed by me are purely me own. My role here is simply to keep some order, remove spam and make sure everyone plays nicely.

I'm meerly trying to restore some balance to the discussion - as clearly not everyone wears lifejackets on every vessel all of the time - its at least the second time in the last couple of months that this vendor has been jumped on by a small proportion of the "ribnet membership" for representing their boats in exactly the way many of their customers will use them. It may or may not be irresponsible but if every time a vendor posts a picture of a boat without everyone wearing a lifejacket on they get jumped on it gets tedious.

Probably, but he was government sponsored and being paid to read the script. The message may be valid but so is the freedom of choice argument.

Unfortunately since half the posts mention both the boats and the LJs its not easy to split the thread.

The likely outcome is that he stops posting his videos not that he stops filming without lifejackets! Given that most people seem to like his videos and that he is supporting the costs of the site through trade membership I think it would be a shame if we scare him away by complaining every time he posts a clip.

As he says, his market, and his competitors don't normally present a picture of lifejacket use (look in any of the glossy magazines, or wander round a boat show in the South of France and you will see what he means). If he is the "pioneer" it may send a message to his customers that either he doesn't really belong in that market or this his boats are higher risk (or maybe less fun) than the competition. It takes a brave person to stand out from the crowd.

At the end of the day its not illegal, and most people seem happy with the status quo which allows individuals the right to make judgements. Of course if you don't approve of their marketing style you can always vote with your wallet - and choose not to buy the product.
