Camping in North Wales

Planning a road trip in the Hymer taking the Aerotec 380 over October half term.

We will be visiting family in Beddgelert at the end of the week.

We like the look of Pwllheli and Abersoch, but having never been to the area, could anyone point me in the right direction of good places to visit and camp in the Hymer?

Cheers

Leave the hymer on the car park at Abersoch , there are two islands off Abersoch the one on the left is good for camping on and it also it has a water slide

Recommended camp site

Have stayed at this campsite for many years can recommend, run by a lovely family.

Called Rhydolion, its near to hells mouth beach and five minutes from abersoch, camper, caravan and tent friendly.

There's a decent campsite around a mile from Beddgelert, up the hill on the road to Caernarfon.

A few years back we stayed on an old holiday park/campsite at Pwllheli - good boating area, but the town's a bit of a twll.

Good luck with the weather late October.

Avoid Pwllheli, nowhere to sib to from the marina and the town is sh*t.

Abersoch is v pretty, but is Knutsford on sea. Loads a money, but very nice and you're near the islands.

Considered somewhere on the Menai strait. Less pretty villages than Abersoch, but boating excellent.

The only campsite I know which is actually on the coast and has its own slipway is Aberfon ( aberafon.co.uk ).

There is also a superb basic site just off the Straits called Is Helen ( http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=13114 )

Its very basic, no showers and just 1 toilet, but its clean, friendly and 10m (across a road) from the water.

Aberafon

You should definitely check out Aberafon, but be warned the entrance is very tight and steep.
Once your down the hill its excellent.

Turn left off the slipway and you've got Trefor Pier and 7 miles further along you come to the Third Best Pub in the World, The Ty Coch.

As my learn'd friend said, can't beat around the menai area, a number of camp sites within a couple of minutes drive from the water.

Thanks for the replies chaps - Aberafon looks good.

When you say tight..... I'm assuming guessing large campers should fit down?

DHD - was this the site you were referring to? http://www.campingintheforest.co.uk/...elert-campsite

Twin axle

You can get a twin axle caravan down there but, very carefully.

It would be best to stop in the lay-by right next to the entrance and walk down to make sure no one's coming the other way.

You should be fine this time of year as It'll be quiet.
