Yeah - looks good from the front!

But from the stern it's gonna look like sh1t - Imagine a small console squeezed into a small cabin! I guess the photos from the boatshow will help me make my mind up. Someone be a pet a take a few?

Aren't they they ones using the not very innovative marketing approach of astroturf on here a few months ago?

That's quite true. I just don't like it. I don't like Astroturfers either ;-)

The advantage of the canvas top is that on a nice day it folds away, whilst still offering the protection on the other 300 days a year! I'm not sure that carpet lining on the inside of a half open rib is better than canvas.

All for innovation, and think there is potential for more nice cabins / wheelhouses / sheltered consoles. Not quite convinced they've hit the mark, and my business head makes me sceptical they can be cheap enough to get you lot excited whilst still making them enough money to be viable.

I'm not a fan of enclosed helms either - luckily I realised that before I bought one! Patently the great thing about canvas is you only use it when the WX is totally sh1t - or in port.

If boats followed car development, canvas would be dead and there would be RIBs with hard tops that folded away into a locker

I don't see how the cabin one would work over an existing console as the whole console would have to be ripped to bits and your electrics and potentially fuel tanks moved... so you may as well at that point buy a new RIB

Pictures (just a rendering not a photo - so may not be the reality!) suggest it is accessed from the foredeck, with a "bonnet" lifting up on gas struts.

There are some huge consoles around which are accessible from the aft, and it might be possible. You make a good point though, on top of needing to be flexible enough to fit "every" hull width, layout etc, they also need to cope with different consoles, and those are all then customised with different screen, metalwork, helm positions etc. Even console mounted nav lights are going to require some extra effort, but if your fuel filler is on the side of the console then you are really going to have some fun!

Is anyone making foldable/removable T-Top ?

2 ALU pipes near console fixed to the floor and maybe to console railings.
Another 2 between them and mast.
And roof made from sunbrella material moving along these two top pipes.

Not sure if it is good idea but I do not like concept of bi-mini.

This Rib-Shield looks interesting. I can easily order something like that in Polish small shipyard. But it is another big toy require space when dismounted.

There are these. They do don't look very solid but possibly semi-easy to remove for the days you don't need it. It's cheap enough to maybe try but I would not try going 30 kts with it, however it is a cheap solution for slow days on the river.

Standard Center Console Boat T-Top | eBay

I agree with this cabin top idea. I think it's a fail, you need to have the right circumstances for it to work on your boat without looking like a bastard child.

Might as well remove the old console and bolt on to the deck a whole new cabin top with a console. It would not be that much more work compared to getting one of these cabins fitted on a rib.

45 - 50 k/h is my favorite speed at Sea ... (and usually against strong wind on MED Sea).

About this cabin. What is the problem to make it higher if it is too low ?
And use more glass or kevlar mats to make it solid and even thinner.

The trick is how to easy mount it on existing console (mount and dismount). Without scratch existing console.

For me it is some innovation and can be easily evolved.
It is GRP on the end and it can be base on carbon/kevlar/glass and it can have different shapes

and then you would have to fit a small hatch into the hole...that could end up costing more than a pint and a bag of crisps... (but not a lot more)

I got to have a good look at the cabin version of the Ribshield at the boatshow. They have the cabin on a stand (ie not on a boat) with a console inside it. The cabin they had has a large portion cut away on one side so you can get access to a fuel filler.

Yes, access appears to be through the big hatch in the front. The cabin is small as quite a lot of it is taken up by the console. You could sleep 2 in there, but you'd better be very good friends.
I wouldn't expect to get any gear in there with you unless you were solo and getting dressed/undressed without the hatch open would be a feat of gymnastics.

As I own a boat that would be a prime candidate for fitting one of these I pressed them for a price. At the £6500 they quoted (Can't remember if that was with or without VAT) I'd have to pass.

£6.5k for a fibreglass "over console"!!

I'd be buying a canopy for the bow Greek style or just changing the Rib for that.

No, wasn't time. I doubt photos would have conveyed just how small the spaces were either.
The wheelhouse roof was low enough it hit me in the middle of the forehead too, so bearing in mind I'm 6'2" tall, anyone over 5'8" is going to smack their head on it quite easily during a bumpy ride.
