Boarding ladder ideas

I'm going to be purchasing a boarding ladder so it makes life easier getting back on the rib but have no idea which is any good.

I dont have enough room and dont fancy getting one that bolts onto the transom and was thinking about one that can simply push off the side of the tube. Its only going to be used when we waterski so doesnt need to be a permanent feature.

I have seen this one PLASTIMO IMMERSED PLATFORM LADDER - Boarding Ladders / Platforms - Discount Marine Chandlery and Sailing Equipment. Bargain Boat Spares and Clothing but didnt know if it was any good or if there are better ones out there.

Any thoughts.

We use these can fasten to A frame or front console

I saw those ones but dont have an aframe as they dont make one for the Zodiac 420, thats something else i'm planning this year, getting one made up. In terms of attaching it to console i dont think there is a strong enough point really

That might actually be a better idea as i can store it on the boat at all times, will take a closer peek Although i'm not sure hanging it from the handle is a great idea, as you say it would have to be from the towing eye

Thinking of getting one myself, it's not as though I need one but at that price it's worth keeping on board in case I ever do.

My only concern would be if the entire ladder folds around your foot when you climb onto it, making it virtually impossible to get your foot on the next rung, where as the solid ones obviously stay flat?

You could always attach some kind of weights on the bottom rung + might do you for now until you find something better.

We had one similar to that it was a pain,the other ladders that I put pics up of we also used on our sib attached it to the motor, you could get a lug of some sort made and use one of the engine bolts.

I suppose there would be no harm in attaching one of the sturdier ladders to the transom eye with a rope just like the fabric one did or as you say an engine slightly modified.

Just thinking that the whole point of the ladder is to make it easier for the wife and others to get out of the water and it is possible the fabric one may not be that easy for the 2nd rung.

Have tried rope ladders with rigid steps .They go under the boat and are not too easy to use. In one case this type of ladder led to a nasty cut. Best and simplest option I have found ( short of fixed ladder on the transom) is a loop of 10mm with one or two figure 8 knots that provide steps.

buy a narrow folding ladder! or get a wide one cut down to size....

Rope ones are crap as they fold under.......in this case there are telescopic ones which once locked are very solid. They collapse to nothing aswell.

As my lad has said we use both types on the sib attached to the engine bracket and with a bit of practice it's easy especially with the grab handle on the boat
