Does insurance stipulate anything?

When I was on swing years ago they made me use a certified mooring layer and it had to be inspected every 3 years.

Also if you are moored in a managed site the rules will specify that the mooring is checked and maintained to standard and that your insurance is adequate

What they said ^, and I would use 3-strand Nylon mooring rope, of the best brand/quality you can find, in at least 14mm, but better 16mm. Cheap insurance!
