Bargain Boats? or Caveat emptor

I responded to a Gumtree advert the other day for an attractively priced outboard engine, same advert is also on Boatsandoutboards. I received the following email reply:

From: Gumtree Mail <s.11099554.Zcv56@mail.gumtree.com>

Hello,

The engine has 30 days testing period (30 days money back guarantee). If you don't like it after the testing period you can ask for a refund and we will transfer your money back.

You can place your order at the following link: Seven Boats - New & used outboards, boats, jet skis & more at low prices! by pressing the buy now button or you can email me the delivery address where you want to receive it and i will pass it to our sales department. After that they will contact you with the invoice where you will have all payment and transport details.

Regards,
Michael Lindley

Seems that the web domain sevenboats was only registered last week by:
Registrant:
Javier Martin
Registrant's address:
Alcala 141
Madrid
28001
Spain

The company who's name appears on the site was incorporated in June of last year and their accounts are overdue:
BOAT SEVEN LIMITED
c/o C/O CODDAN CPM
124 BAKER STREET
LONDON
UNITED KINGDOM
W1U 6TY
Company No. 07676661

Now being a bit of a techy I looked at the scripting behind the site and discovered this:
<meta name="author" content="Klára Frolichová, Sunlight webdesign"/>
<meta name="Copyright" content="Klára Frolichová, Sunlight webdesign 2007" />
<meta name="design" content="Sunlight webdesign - Tvorba e-shopu a pronájem e-shopu, vývoj systému Sun-shop, info@sunlight.cz" />

So, what do you all think should I send this company my hard earned cash or what?

They appear to be a few doors up from Sherlock Holmes - you could check with him?

Indeed

The internet makes it too easy to find buyers to meet sellers and theres the problem.... because .... a good buy has never been too easy to find in my opinion if that makes sense

So same story as the other dodgy one. "Send me money. I'll send you the boat/engine/whatever and if it doesn't work you can have a refund."

Sounds too easy... ...the point being you have no assurance they'll (a) send u anything and (b) refund if they did and it was faulty.

(b) is moot - because they wont do (a)

The company no is ligit. Bu the address is central london.

Lightning posted a link to these guys (or a clone of them) the other day. Several other dodgy alerts stood out - FAQs that say things like Sales Tax when itgs a UK company...

So english company (french director, ?company sec) thats never filed its accounts, web site registered to spain, written by someone from cz, hosted in denmark/sweeden, and you're gonna be asked to do a bank transfer (try the buy now link) and trust them...

Would advise reporting to both Gumtree and Boats4Sale.

If he's emailed you there may well be an IP address in the header that would point to a country where he's connected... ...curious where! I'm gonna say Lagos.
