Bank Holiday Launching in North Wales

We've just bought a 5 metre Humber Assault from freespirit3 and we can't wait to get it out on the water. Our first free Saturday isn't until the 18th of May but with the weather forecast being reasonable for Bank Holiday Monday I'd thought of trying to get it out then. We'd be looking to launch anywhere down from Prestatyn to Caernarfon but being very new to this I don't know if a Bank Holiday Monday would just be too busy to be fun.

My 3 brothers and their families will be coming as well so the plan is to take 5 or 6 out at a time for half an hour so we'd need somewhere where the people who are not on the boat can sit and wait. We did our PB2 course on the Menai Straits last year so any launching spots around there would be perfect.

So I guess in a nutshell:

Bank Holiday Monday in North Wales - Is it worth it?
Launching - Do I need to register my boat beforehand? Any suggestions of a suitable place for our needs? Also how far either side of High Tide can you launch and recover in North Wales?
Anything else I should have thought of and have forgotten?

Thanks in advance. :-)

Trailer's good, we have the safety equipment, engine is good but I have an A4 so not the best for launching. Having said that the boat is (relatively) light so hopefully it'll be ok.

The first boat we had was a 17 foot Bayliner and we nearly lost the trailer and a Toyota Previa off a slip in Frejus in France. It was in a marina and we didn't realise that the slip ended and just disappeared into deep water. We learned from that mistake. ;-)

Simsy is spot on, Chris at Ty Calch will launch you with a tractor, pretty much all states of tide. Lots of nice beaches round there, my favorite is Pilots Cove about 10 mins from the launch. Theres also a beach a bit further down the Strait, not sure if you could use that one.

You need to register to use most slips round there, but Ty Calch is the exception.

I've got a couple of props to suit that Twatsoo, if you need a spare.

Carrying a spare prop is always a good idea, saves you ruining your day.

Chris seddon

would just like to give a big thumbs up to Chris at Ty Calch,we arrived there yesterday and Tom launched our boat but unfortunately our trailer which had just been driven 80 miles broke in the middle load bearing area .Devastated I asked if there was anyone there to repair our trailer ,Chris came across and said it was no problem and they would repair the trailer .At this point we thought great we will at least get the boat home but then thought oh my god how much will this cost .We were totally at their mercy with nobody else there to help and we thought this was going to cost an arm and a leg to fix .When we picked up the trailer today at 10.30 am they had fixed it in the pouring rain and put the boat back on the newly repaired trailer .He charged a paltry 35 pounds for this repair .All I can say is in this day and age to come across such an honest and helpful man is a real revelation .Thank you all at ty Calch formerly ronnies
