what are they like with twin 150's or 225's or would a single 300 be better

Stu, if I was in the market for a rib of that size, I would asking you for advice. Are you going to become a shipping magnet based around a fleet of large ribs ?

i'd love to but i think Safety Boat services have got that market cornered. I was having a discussion with Phil yesterday who owns an Artic Hull about what sort of engine's I thought a minimum of 2 200's for performance but he was wondering about a single 300.

I said that i didn't think it would be OK but dunno for sure. do you know what do the military clip on?

They used to use 2 x 200 Yams but that was in the days when you could buy glorious fire beathing 2 strokes rather than an up ended car engines.

Last one I saw had a pair of Mercury 2 strokes (not optimaxes) can't remember if they were 200hp or 250hp.

Would shaft length be an issue with a single engine?

Arctics have quite a low transom, as far as I can tell they take 20" twins or 25" for a single set up.

My idea was to figure out a way of building up the transom to take twin 25" motors. More of these on the second hand market, less likely to swamp the motors and a drier boat.

Could be easier said than done though to add a piece on that will take half a ton of weight and 4-500 horses without snapping off!

I can think of a few ways of making the new piece strong enough, it's how you tie it into the existing structure where it gets tricky, thats going to be the weak point.

This one has twin 250s!

The pic below shows that the ends of the Artic transom are raised, so perhaps my method of raising the transom could be used as described a couple of times before.

Thats not bad if it's the complete kit. These CMC jack plates seem to be the daddys but cheaper than you think with the current exchange rate, I've seen them start at around £300 but shipping would be quite a bit.

I just realised this guy wants £270 for a manual jack plate, you can the hydraulic complete kit in the USA for nearly the same money!
