Any info available on Avon SR6 ?

I recently purchased a 2005 Avon SR6 Searider from the US Coast Guard through government surplus. It has no engine or rigging, but has brackets for twin outboards. I was able to get some basic info from the Avon website that indicates it should have twin 90hp. outboards. I would like to find out if a single outboard could be used and any info available as to how the "searider" ballast system works. I tried emailing to the address on Avon's website, but got no response. The only phone number for the site is in England, and I am in the US. I tried calling inflatable boat dealers but they were less than helpful.

When you say ballast do you mean the flooding hull? If so this fills via a hole at the stern vent air through two smaller holes in the bow, it makes the RIB more stable at rest.
You'll be able to fit a big single if you wanted to?

Holes in bow? I didn't see those. I figured CG used it on a ship as a tender that they would bring up and down on a davit, which would make sense that they wanted it to lay flat alongside while loading it. I would like to put a single on if this won't negatively affect the stability. Thanks for your help.

If the single is the same weight as the twins or less then it'll be ok, Avon should be able to tell you the max engine weight and hp for a single engine.
What makes you think it has a ballast system?

Any SR6 I have seen with a ballast system only has the large hole aft & no small vent holes fwd.

I recently purchased an sr6 as well, and I'm probably about an hour from you! Look through this site, you'll find all of the info you need. For starters, the flooding hull works by filling up at rest to add stability, and drains when on plane. The breather tube for it is under the dash by the batteries. The only other hole for it is the large drain/fill hole at the bottom of the transom. Also, it came with twin 90s or twin 70s with 20'' shafts. People have put on singles from 175-225hp. 25'' shaft. But then you have to ditch the tow post. In the North America section, there are a few threads with some info on them.

post some pics of yours!

She needs a little work...so far all we have done is blow up the tube. Still trying to decide on engine(s). I want to use it for towing so I definitely need the tow post!

23' Hurricane

This is our other RIB, that we have had since 2001. She belonged to the Secret Service and was used to keep up with Pres. Bush when he used his speedboat. She definitely moves with twin 225 Hondas.

Very nice, if you want i'll take some pics and measurements of my tow post. I really doubt youll be able to find one so getting one fabbed is probably the only way to go.
