Advice for first timer

Hi I'm new to the forum and new to ribs. I'm looking for boat and a out board and found these Inflatable Dinghy River Boat Tender w/ Aluminium Paddles & Flooring Family Size for 4 Adults and 1 Child: Amazon.co.uk: Sports & Outdoors
3.5HP TWO-STROKE OUTBOARD MOTOR BOAT ENGINE WATER COOLED INFLATABLE BOAT f5 | eBay
I would appreciate your opinion on the matter but I must stress that both the outboard and the boat will only get light use on local inland waterways and lakes for me the wife and a6 year old.my budget is £600 max

IMO It will 'probably' be ok for the use you say it is for....... But If you (or the wife) do not take to boating and decide to sell it, (agian only my opinion) you will lose quite abit on the sale.

If I were you I would be looking on Ebay, Gumtree or the like for a used better known setup so that if you did not like boating then the chances are you will not lose anything.

I've owned one of these & although inexpensive did pretty much everything I wanted it to do. Started off with a 3.5 hp and ended up with a 15hp 2 stroke Mercury on it. It flew with one person & would still get on the plane with three (I'm 18 stone but am dieting). But four up was too heavy.

It never leaked but after a few years I had to glue a bit of the transom back on. Just bought a Honwave 3.5 ally floor & 20hp Tohatsu 4stroke to replace it ,it remains to be seen if the extra pennies give a bigger grin....

if you have a budget of around £600 then I would go second hand. Wouldn't trust that engine as far as I could throw it

I really, really wouldn't go down the ultra budget *new* route you're contemplating and end up with a very poor rig. And as pointed out you'll lose a packet when you sell.

See the 'Which SIB?' sticky in the SIB section.

Secondhand, branded outfit is the way to go.

take a look at honwave.

you could also look at some of the older avon sibs, they can go very cheap and are very well made.

Something like this is within budget, and although Avon boat is old, it's mint. Air cooled Yamaha should be easy to maintain. Only downside is its noisy. On plus side use remaining cash for life jackets for you and family.

the honwaves are sibs what doesn't your wife like the sound of mine loves ours think you may struggle to get a decent rib with your budget .the avon mentioned sounds good for the money and if boating doesn't end up being your thing you should be able to recoup your costs

Stretch the budget.

Better to end up with something you want and will use, rather than compromise on quality. £600 is a big ask.

Found this at dealer via brokerage: West Wales Yamaha Marine : Outboards : Chandlery : Servicing : Boat Packages : Neyland : Pembrokeshire

Same package or similar privately: Yamaha 330S Inflatable Rib including Yamaha 15hp 2 stroke outboard engine RIBs and Inflatable Boats for sale in Orkney, Scotland :: Boats and Outboards
