By the sea in Orkney

Hi All from Orkney

Pic 1 The buildings you can see in the mid-ground our ours (as is Hamish the horse)

Pic 2 - Our community multi-level slip is 5 mins drive away (£20 per year to use)

Pic 3 the usually empty beach 5 mins walk from home.

Located here:
Streetmap.co.uk - Search results

Can't imagine why I moved here and spent £175,000 on a detached house with barn, stables and 20 acres of land...

Cheers

Steve

Thanks - it is lovely although even better if I didn't need to work. Very hard to stay in the office when it's a great day for ribbing outside. That said, the weather here is more challenging than the Solent or Dorset to say the least, though I'm happy to put up with that for all the positives about Orkney. Steve

Hi Kerny

I'm self employed so kept on doing what I was doing south, and the cheaper house costs compensate for increased travel costs / time on and off the island (fly to London now rather than take the train). Have worked for Orkney Islands Council part time for 18 months - some very good people there but quite "traditional" in some parts compared to how councils operate elsewhere. Hence why I'm fully self employed again! If you are good with boats or marine engineering three's more opportunity... Or just if you are enterprising. But it's not for everyone for sure anyway. Lots of folks from Lancashire / Manchester have moved up here to my knowledge.

Mores options work-wise if you look to Inverness and to the east along the Moray coast, and still lots of sea to access, plus weekends on the west coast.

Steve

Heres what I see from my front door overlooking the Summer Isles

3 pics of the same view nearly .. its never the same twice

And for Tony T the nearest Tesco is about 1Hr and a half .. maximum broadband speed is a half Meg if you can get it

Ive considered renting out the wee house in the foreground
