90hp Mariner 2T - What size RIB??

We currently own a 16ft Sports Dory, with a Mariner 90hp two stroke long shaft, the boat is getting tired but the engines (also a backup Mariner 3.3) are spot on & have been well cared for. The boat is good for 40+ mph if anything its slightly overpowered but its great for effortless cruising at planing speeds around 15-20mph with seemingly good economy it does 30+m on 30L cruising. The boat weighs about 900kg & its a twin helm.

What size of rib would the 90hp engine be suitable for, ideally I'd like something 15-17ft as the whole lot would fit in my garage ;}

Also what RIB's come with twin helms as we quite like this set up?

I may well be up for a project/bare boat build.....

I think the searider 5.4m is rated for 90hp

I think an SR5.4 would be a damn good choice.

Totally agree - Searider 5.4! What do you mean when you say "twin helms" - do you mean a double width console (ie two people sat side by side). This isn't standard in a SR5.4 however it is possible to install a double width console and jockey seats for 4 people in. Would make a nice spring project!

I'd agree with that.

I think it depends how much money is wanting to be spent. There are boats around that size that'll easily take a side by side standup console, but they're quite wide. Ribcraft 5.3 for example-which probably won't fit through any normal garage door.

RC go in for a bit of that, dam the mould to create another, shorter model. The 545 is apparently, a shortened 585, hence being as wide as it is long.

Yeah, they only fit a transom on the 545, as a clue as to which end to put the motor.

Jumping back to the ioriginal Q - assuming a "standard single" garage door, that does limit things qouite a bit.

Somewhere out here I posted what I had found having been throug hthe same process, if ou can't find it, shout & I'll re- post the findings when I get to the home PC where they are stashed.....

Memory says there is only 1 (small) Ribcraft <2m beam, although that may have changed. SR4.7 / 5.4 - Any "2mBeam" Humber (O-Pro / Assault & I think there is a small Destroyer?) Probably a couple of Zodiacs as well, but for a 90 you are getting into "bigger boat than the garage will take" territory, so do your reasearch!

I also wrote a thing or two on rib trailers for confined space storage again - shout if you can't find it.

Now, the big problem you will have is being restricted to 2m beam, you can take out nearly a metre of that for toob diameter and side -by-side seating suddenly gets tight. Not a problem of course if you have a double garage with double door!

Dual helm on a 5m boat? sounds a tad OTT, but as someone with a few "different" things on my own rib, I am curious......

That's not what it looked like when I ran off ahead of you in the Searider, going faster and being thrown round less...

That is, unless you were deliberately pointing the spotlight at the sky a lot

Width is not issue, I have a double almost triple width garage with two barn doors

So about a 5+m rib would do the job, off to the jumble I go.... I have been PM'd regards an engineless project so will follow that up.

I shan't mention having to keep slowing down so you could keep up, til you put a huge motor on it
