Fade

You could always put wear patches going over the tops of the tube, we were out playing on Mr Manning's humber, orange tubes with blue wear patches covering all of the top of the tube, i believe this was done when the boat was new.

I suppose the fase would only matter if you were going to sell it, as a boat to buy and keep it seems ok.

They used to sell this stuff for dyeing vinyl, would this not work, or even taking the top faded bit off with some sort of solvent like tcut on a car??

Anyways, i havent got 10 large so it doesnt matter really lol!

Considering that you're a tube builder, your levels of observation leave a lot to be desired. The tubes are blue with orange wear patches. Your missus is a better boat driver than you as well.

Hi folks

If you looks at the elphant trunk shown in the pic taken from the rear.

Why is the elephants trunk bright yellow and not faded while the tubes are well faded ?.

Even so it may be a good buy as even if it needs some work may be worth it.

Regards Gary

If I was selling a boat like this and I was genuine (which I do feel this one is), and a clique of folk who know absolutely nothing about it started making comments based on little more that nothing, I'd be really fekkin pissed.

If you feel it's genuine, the chances are anyone else reading the thread would come to the same conclusion

They may not have the necessary knowledge to make a judgement. I presume that's why you started the thread.

My yellow Humber is less than a year old and doesn't look much brighter than that one does on a dull day. I also have the same handles and the big "H" so don't know where the comment about them stopping fitting them three years ago comes from.

So, JW, which comments were really negative then? I've re-read 'em a few times and can't find anything other than a few comments about faded tubes, which is what it says in the ad. Even Richard B who was a touch suspicious, concludes it's a genuine boat. Most people reckon it would have been a bargain. Only "niggle" is a fella who reckons Humber don't fit those style handles anymore and those of us who have bought Humbers in the last year or so seem to have corrected that... have I missed something?

Just a wee selection for you...

Your right tubes do look awful for an Apr 04 hull, so is there something your not being told. Like the tubes came off another boat and its only the GRP hull that was new in Apr 04 ? they claim 3 years warranty left on the tubes but I thought Humber offered a 5 year warranty ?

Whilst I think Richard should have enquired before first commenting, he appeared to be the only one to take the trouble. At that point, the thread began to take a different slant.

Well, do you think the tubes look good from the photographs? And why is the 5 year warranty on the tubes only 3 years. Seems like a reasonable question to ask.

Well, do you think that the trailer is a UK/EC one? Is it not reasonable to point that out to someone who may not have noticed?

Quote:

Ditto above. Or do you think that it would be reasonable to tow a rig like that on a un-braked trailer?

Quote:

Well, yes, it does look odd. After all there is an "expensive" rig, with tubes faded in an unreasonably short period of time, with none of the usual "toys" tah a proud RIB owner seems to like to fit. Radio, Nav aids? Not even a compass!

Quote:

Corrected by several people with "new" humbers.

Quote:

An opinion, based on the photographs, albeit an unlikely one.

Seems reasonable to thank people for pointing out things that an inexperienced buyer may have missed in the excitement of a potential purchase. We've all got carried away with a new toy and wished that someone had reigned us in haven't we? Or is it just me?

Quote:

Seems like a reasonable question, if the trunk is made from the same material as the tubes and has been outside the same length of time. It may be that the trunk is permanantly in the shade, but who knows? Not me.

Damnation by faint praise?

Sorry, JW, I feel we need to disagree on this one! Be cool, brother ribster, being different and holding different opinions are one of life's little (and free) priveleges. Cheers, Jono

Jono, I did realise I'd prompt a reaction, I was being deliberately provocative and I'm able also to judge why, say, a trunk bailer is likely to be darker on the top, but you seem to have missed my point. By all means discuss this with your pals in the pub, by PM or whatever. I simply said I'd be pissed if I was a genuine advertiser and folk judged me and my motives on a world wide public forum.

I'm not at all grumpy about it, I just feel it's out of order.

I do understand Richard's reaction (although I haven't a clue what he's referring to), he's a sensitive lass.

JW,

Advertise goods for sale, at auction, on a world wide platform, then I think it's reasonable to be "debated" on the same scale forum. If you don't want this, then stick to advertising on the noticeboard in your local pub and accept the discussions of a few, beery, "mates"... everyone has choices (until the Government cracks down ) don't they? Even advertisers....

Hi all

To me many of the points raised are questions which need to be answered by any prospective buyer.

I belive pointing out anything that has been noticed is only benificial.
It is upto any buyer to decide if the answers he gets are accecptable.

On a more basic note, would anyone pay £10K for somthing they have never seen ?.
I for one would not, an would be supprised if many other would.

If I was considering any purchase of this value I would want to see and examine it in detail and to that end the more points raised the better.
I would rather go with a hugh list of questions and come away happy with the purchase rarther then regret things later.

Regards Gary

..and "feeling a bit like a dog with a bone".... If I was the advertiser and saw the discussion here, along with the points raised, I could answer them easily, point-by-point and reinforce the nature of the Craft I was selling, something I couldn't do if I had no knowledge of the discussions.

I'm just being argumentative really...OK, I'll shut up now....TAXI!
