Newbie and collapsible trailer

Hi I've had my 3.1 zodiac zoom about 5 years now. I always take it when I go on my summer holidays up Scotland in the caravan. I've always struggled getting it of the beach with the foldable trailer, so after this year and being on furlough I've built my own that can be put up in10 minutes and the longest section is 1.5 metres. Result 😄

Is it a launching trailer or is it also roadworthy?

I think if you number plate board on it would be ok yes .

Looks good. Do you have plans? What did it cost? Looks ideal if like me you have a caravan to tow. When on site you could then set up the trailer and tow the sib for the duration of the holiday.

Hi Steve, exactly my position, needed a sturdy trailer that is lightweight for carrying in van and easy to assemble when on site, Hopefully if I get enough interest I'll start making them.

Unless the slip/beach is on the camp site trailer needs to be road legal..... these days means type approval and paperwork.

Would you still need type approval for an existing sailing dinghy trailer that has been adapted to come apart so it can be transported in the caravan?

Making and selling them is one thing, modifying your own trailer another. Can still up use IVA for single approvals

If I go down the road of making them and selling them I would get it tested and approved for the road 😜.

Think a SIB would probably need a bit more support in the middle. But saying that it looks pretty good to me.

Yes Steve I've used an internal piece between the two trailer shafts

What is that made of Aluminum tube ?

Yes all the frame is aluminium, the joints are steel.

Hi Steve, if I get enough interest I probably would start making them. I would have to invest in some kit and clear my shed out 😂

Hi Chris, did you ever fully finish your trailer? Have you used it on the road?
