Hi from Lancs
Hi all,
I thought it was time I joined after lurking for a while.
I only have a 3m SIB at the moment but plan on adding a RIB when funds and space allow.
So far I am really impressed at the content on here, I am looking forward to finding out more as I get further into it!
Hoping to get out this weekend after fitting launching wheels and picking up a better outboard last weekend!

Well I was lucky enough to grow up in a house that backs on to the Leeds-Liverpool Canal, so I had my own boat from being 10 years old or so. It was a 12' fibreglass dinghy with an old Seagull motor.
I was thinking of taking the boat down to my parents place and chucking it in there. I have had this particular SIB for three years, but with family and other commitments I havent had a lot of time out in it for 18 months or so.
I plan on doing a lot more this year now that my son is old enough to safely join me, I fancy Ullswater and around the coast of Anglesey when we go camping this year.
Any recommendations of local launching points are very welcome!

Welcome along!
I'm originally from Wilpshire on the other side of Blackburn so I know you're kind limited for back yard stuff (other than LL Canal)
I suspect Knott End would be a good spot for a short jaunt but you have the Lakes about an hour away and there is load to explore up there.
Enjoy the boat and stay safe.
Chris

Thanks Chris, we are a bit limited but the lakes is as good a place as any, I did take the boat out at Fleetwood when I first picked it up but the motor I had was pretty unreliable so I didnt like risking it.
I am planning on picking up a VHF handheld as a precaution, when I can organise the appropriate training of course

loads of places to launch your boat round Anglesey, but if the wind is blowing and you are looking for a bit of shelter try the Menai, usually find somewhere out of the wind to play. we launch at Ty Calch, just up from Caernarfon, loads of safe cruising

We've sailed on the ribble for years now, nice safe river to have a play on, there is a few places to stick your boat in and plenty of places to explore.

Thanks, do you need a license for the Ribble? I would be very interested to find out more about where to launch etc.
Cheers!

hi glow, i spend a lot of time on a site outside of holyhead which is really nice and has easy launching, however i think i would recomend trearddur bay for somewhere that is pretty sheltered and with plenty to explore without venturing out too far.

Thanks, I will check it out. Will my 6hp on a 2.9m airdeck be sufficient for light coastal pottering?
I have my eye on a 9.9hp Yam but will have to see if its manageable weight wise, and what sort of deal I can get on one

Thanks for the welcome, looks great! Unfortunately I have this little lot to look after! Welcome to Flickr!
Plus I think my little sib would get left behind!
Maybe next year!

Hi There,
not too far away from you as we're in Holcombe Brook.
Regarding the Lakes we go to Waterside House Farm at Ullswater. Great campsite next to the lake, free launch etc, and a short but stunning walk into Pooley Bridge wher there a 3 pubs (2 good) with food .
Waterside House: A Lake District Campsite on Ullswater
Jake
PS: Did my VHF course at Hollingworth Lake

We stayed at Pooley Bridge last year and I got quite a bit of fishing in, I will check it out come camping season this year.
As soon as the pups go I will be in a position to get some overnight trips in, and hopefully pick up a bigger motor

Welcome Glow, we holiday at Trearddur bay and it is a very nice place to launch, we stay on a camp site called tyn rhos (not correct way to spell) which is very close to the bay, some good days out around this area, have you looked at Treath Bychan just above Benllech, this is more sheltered for your sib if you need to get familiar with it again.

Thanks, we will definately look at it when booking in our trips this year, I absolutely love Anglesey, if only I could find a job there...
