Hello from the Isle of Man

Hi all, thanks for having me on the forum, hope I can give some good input.

I'm hoping I can get a bit of help.

I'm a complete novice and I know what I would like to achieve but need a few pointers if that's ok.

I want a rib of around 4 meters with an engine to be able to allow me and the family to water ski behind her, obviously one at a time !! lol.

I'm not a flush kinda guy but have a budget of £5000 for the rib and engine.

I think from reading bits on the net I would need around 100hp engine and would be wise to stick to Honda, Yamaha or Mercury.

I'm open to any help or suggestions and would welcome your thoughts to get me going.

Thanks very much.

Hi and welcome IOM,
I'm sure someone will be along soon to offer better advice than I can, but I would say 100 HP on a 4m Rib would be very lively for any novice, I would have thought 40 or 60 HP more suitable for that size, and you should get a very nice one for that price.

Mollers has an Avon Searider SR4 with a Honda 50 4 stroke on which would be good fun 2-3 at a time.

Or

Avon Searider 4.7 with a 60 - 70hp? (but very hard to find)

Or

Avon Searider 5.4 with a 80 - 90hp on

Loads of rib for the money, deep V hull and very fast too

Hiya

Thanks very much for your quick replies, know more than I did 30 mins ago.

We hired a Jeanneau Cap 400 on Loch Lomond last summer and it had a 5hp engine which was fun.

Question is, what's your views on the Jeanneau Cap 400 and what hp would be good for water skiing with that boat ?

Thanks again.
