The purists would remove it, but it can be a little heartache getting it off.

Personally, I would probably leave it on, unless i was locked down, and had run out of jobs!!

Maybe use it to try and lever the price down a bit.....this may not be your "forever boat", ....so see if you like it first.

The older antifouling paints were toxic......if it is a toxic antifouling paint, you need to very careful how you remove it.

He also said that the boat is definable kept in his garage and launched when needed. He said that there is antifoul but it would need redoing if the boat was going to be kept in water (which it wouldn’t be).

Maybe a stupid question but what is for, and is it a problem that it’s already on the boat?

Paul
Seating I'd be happy to put my 2 & 4 year olds in the boat. Its a better arrangement for kids than we had for our now grown up kids.
Re antifoul apart from looking messy, I'd assumed it was a much younger boat possibly 1 owner & being anti fouled is a clear sign it hasnt been kept in a garage all its life & assuming its pvc (it may be hypalon im not sure) then uv damage is a possible concern to consider. It also means the engine is unlikely to have been flushed every time so corrosion could be an issue.
All that said it looks a decent buy but have a good look around it for signs of corrosion on the engine & uv damage to tubes. My concerns are also good negotiating points

Sometimes antifoul can be applied to a hull to cover up a repair..

Not saying that is the case here, but once applied it reduces it's value and is then a very strong negotiating position.

Good luck with the purchase.

Afternoon everyone. The Yam rib I had my eye on has now sold, if anyone sees anything similar please let me know.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday, slightly different weather from this time yesterday afternoon....!

That looks very interesting, a lot of boat for that kind of money.

Good luck with it, but don't rush into anything.

Not really. Old Indespension trailer, older 2-stroke Suzuki engine, under-powered for a 5.5m RIB. Don't know much about Narwhal ribs so can't comment. Rene has only been on Gumtree for a month.

I never said I'd want to own it either. I would only want to own a Hypalon rib with a deep vee hull.

Whilst I don't know much about this Suzuki, an older well kept 2 stroke wouldn't bother me in the slightest, yesterday I got out my 9.8 tohatsu from my Sib that I have not used or started for nearly four years. It fired on the 1st pull and ran on the second. Lovely little thing.

An early four stroke or any marine engine reliant on electronics would worry me alot more. Which is why I sold my etec that I'd had since new.

What's wrong with an older non braked trailer trailer in good nick?

Cant wait to get out on the water.

Big difference between a tohatsu two stroke and an old suzuki 2 stroke. Imho they were the worst of what was available in their day & 20 odd years or more on I doubt they've improved.
I love old two strokes but wouldn't touch an old suzuki. Slight typo on my origional post It should have read that Narwal were Not well thought of.
I agree with your sentiment regarding newer electronic controls & I did say very early on in the thread a late two stroke might be the best bet

Fair enough, I'll bow to your knowledge on the old Suzuki.

I do agree about the Narwal and most other mass produced Ribs.

When I found my Rib it had an old Mariner 60 that was not to my liking, other wise the boat was what I wanted so I bought it and put the engine on ebay, it made £1400 which absolutely amazed me. I was thinking if I got £500 I'd be doing well.

one thing i would draw attention to is when i was a regular on gumtree looking for a small 4.8 ,whenever one came up as a scam it was always being sold by a recently registered femail name ie Rene ,maybe worth checking back over some of the gumtree history on here

Had a couple DT’s. Never had a moments problem and parts are still fairly easy to get hold of. If I was on a proper budget I’d wouldn’t hesitate to run a clean old DT.

Pikey Dave is exactly right about paying & collection.

Re Suzuki outboards I view them a bit like Skoda cars, the earlier two strokes being like the former eastern bloc creations & the 4 strokes being the later VAG offerings.
If they didnt fizz away with corrosion they regularly siezed when the oil injection gave up

Back when the two strokes were new obviously some folk had good service but I think most folk looked at them as the bottom of the big 4 manufacturers ie most folk would take a yamaha, mercury, omc before a Suzuki

Hi again everyone.

I’ve seen this boat for sale, it’s a Valiant 520 with a 75 hp engine.
It says it comes with a good roller trailer apparently (not the one in the picture)
It’s on at £7,995 but I know he will take less.
The seller says it holds air well and has no patches, it’s been antifouled and has an antenna to take a VHF radio. Slightly worryingly I asked if all the instruments for the engine work and he said he didn’t know as he has never really looked at them?!?!

I’m so confused and my eyes are square from looking at ribs.

Paul

I can’t comment on price because I’m out of touch, but seems like an ok package.

I wonder though where you were planning to sit everyone? People here mostly hate bench seats, but for family stuff they can work. You don’t want to put people (especially young kids) on the cushion on the front of the console. We call that the suicide seat.
