Hello all

Hello everyone
my hobby is renovating small(ish) boats , so far 2 skipper sailng dinghys , 1 seasafe dandy , a cleopatra 23 and an unknown 14 rowing boat - all in g.r.p.
Recently i have been given a 'Lifeguard ' 4.9 m rib - i have no knowledge of ribs , any help would be appreciated
Do the sponsons come off easily ? The hull is aluminium - easy to spray paint ? There are four mountings on the floor - seats or second deck ? It has no remotes - easy fit or not ?
The id plate on the transom has an arrow - would it be an ex m.o.d. craft ?
If anyone has one or can help , it would be appreciated !
Many thanks

It's in a mess, but looks like a very interesting project.

Please keep us updated with progress.

Looks like the tubes are glued on in which case they are a pain to take off. Cant be 100% sure from the pictures but if you post pictures of the tube hull joint we can see if they are glued or clamped on tubes.
A few hours cleaning & scrubbing will make a huge difference it looks in reasonable condition under the muck & dirt

Lifeguard 4.9

Hi all
Looks like the tubes are fitted into sliders on the hull and straps going over them .
I have several willing ( ? ) hands to help remove them , but wondering what sort of a job it is refitting them !
I need to take them off to have the inside of the hull sandblasted before respraying , the outside seems pretty good .
a picture says a thousand words - here's several thousand !

Looks like you'll get that off as long as your carefull a good hose out to try and remove any debris first then plenty of liquid soap to make it slide
Tubes being mounted like that make your job 10 times easier for painting
