Greetings from North Yorkshire

Hi all,

I'm a long serving squaddie looking to leave the Army in 3 years time after what will by then be nearly a 30 year career.
I've done a fair amount of sailing over the years but only qualified as a day skipper. I've got my PB1 qual which i know isn't much but has spurred me on to try and get more under my belt.
I have a three year plan which i hope will culminate in me being a qualified commercial skipper hopefully working on the wind farms.

My knowledge isn't much at the minute but hopefully with some help from you guys over the next few years that will improve significantly!

So far i have the following courses planned (I've picked these as I can do them with funding from the Army):
RYA Adv Powerboat
RYA VHF SRC
RYA First Aid
RYA Sea Survival
RYA PPR
ML5 Medical

Please throw advice at me and let me know if you think i should try for another course or if theirs a more suitable equivalent. I'm all ears.

Dave

Welcome to Ribnet
Go for it!...
I should think you might get some funding from the Army if you're training for a new career?

We do get some, it’s not loads but it’ll lay for some training. It’s handy that I’m in the Royal Artillery and for some reason we have a lot of boats! I can do quite a few courses and get some hours up without it costing me too much which is a huge bonus!

If you've not done so you should definatly join the RYA as a member....they can advise you on the best way forward depending on you're goals.
