Greetings from North Norfolk.

Hello everyone, although certainly not my first boat, I have just ordered my first SIB, an Excel Volaire 390 with new Selva 20.

I am based up on the north east coast of Norfolk, near Bacton and will be using the boat for fishing, diving and long coast runs.

Anyone else up in this neck of the woods?

I look forward to learning from the more experienced of you here.

Hi SD and welcome to the forum. We're not far south of Peterborough and been up to your area over many years as a visitor on foot but not with the boat.

Look forward to seeing how you get on with your outfit... chuck up some pictures when it arrives. Be particularly interested to see and hear more of the engine. I've known of the Selva brand for decades and they are often great value but so far not well represented on here.

Hi Fenlander, thanks, I will be beach launching with the boat and engine on a trolley cart, well, that is the plan anyway, will see how it goes! I don't understand why Selvas are not popular. It is a Yamaha with a white hood, comes out of the same factory in Japan with the same blue Yamaha paint on the leg, but at a cheaper price.

Hi SD, can officially say hello and welcome.
Any particular reason why you chose the Selva?

Greetings from North Norfolk.

We looked at the 20hp selvas when we were shopping around. IIRC they’re a big old 50kg+ lump.

Ps, closer to 60kg[emoji15]

Hi. I'm in Dereham. Haven't launched up your neck of the woods yet, but planning to launch from Brancaster or Wells this year. I usually launch from Lowestoft Harbour.

Not 100% confirmed yet as the boat doesn't come until the end of April, but Yamaha reliability, availability, wanted a Suzi but no stock, was also looking at Tohatsu 15, same problem. It is heavy but only got to stand it up from the trolley at the back of the boat and drop it onto the transom by the water's edge.

But will have a trailer too

Not wishing to pee on your parade, but don’t underestimate how heavy & awkward a 60kg outboard will be to manhandle. I have a 44kg Suzi 20 & it’s on the limit of what I can manage. I’m a fit & sturdy 57yr old.

Hi Eddzoid, do you fish? What's it like out of Lowestoft. Is a bit too far south for me unless it was for a meet-up with others for a good day out.

Hi SD, I'm with Pikey Dave on this one. My 45kg dry/48kg wet 15hp Merc is just the max in terms of weight for me.
Mind you, I'm probably not as fit & sturdy as the younger PD

I know that you are right. I think I need to try a bit harder to find a suzi 20 short tiller. Will have a phone around tomorrow.

Hi. I only started last year. Yet to catch anything. Apparently its quicker to get to Lowestoft from Bacton than it is from Dereham! Excellent slipway

No, Suzuki GB is one of my customers, their backorders are nearly 1000 outboards. Every ob manufacturer is in the same boat. Only option is to try and find a dealer with one.

Wow! Didn’t realise. Is it a Covid issue or “The other thing”?

The problem that the manufacturers have is that their suppliers are suffering from the lockdown and they have a lack of component parts. Production lines are really struggling to complete engines due to a regulator, or coil pack, or water pump impeller, or some other small component part not being available. So, yes, it is all to do with the Covid caused shutdowns of months previous.

It is the same for all Japanese and American manufacturers. For example Mercury Marine small engines, like the 15 and 20 hp are all Tohatsu powerheads made in Japan.

It is such a shame as the industry is buoyant due to people not being able to travel abroad but a real lack of inventory means that the dealers have a lack of stock and customers have a lack of choice.

Couldn't find a Suzi so went for the 20hp version of your 15 Merc, its the same engine/weight. And at least it is black so will match the boat!

How has your Merc 15 been? Are you happy with it and how old is it?
