Good morning from Hereford/Worcs

Good morning all,

I've been lurking here for some time before finally taking the plunge and joining. I'm the owner of a Zodiac 360 Cadet SIB (with 5 or 15hp) and will hopefully be sorting my VHF radio ticket and RYA in due course. I plan on doing a spot of fishing on the south Welsh coast, possibly out of Cardiff through the locks if anyone fancies it sometime?
My experience is mainly on rivers such as the Great Ouse in Cambs and the River Welland in Lincs from several years ago, but I have a little sea experience in flat/calm conditions in Cornwall. I'm not one for choppy seas or a swell!

Hello and welcome to the forum.

The Gt.Ouse is my nearby river just down the road when our two hour drive to the coast seems too much.... and for testing new setup ideas etc in calm conditions.

Is your Cadet a hard floor? Which 15hp do you run?

Hi Fenlander, the Ouse is such a tranquil river, and I've had many an hour fishing for Pike and Zander in some of its backwaters.

I have a 2011 Activ-V air deck, running an old 1979 Mariner 15M (or Yamaha 15C re-badged). I'm looking to but something newer though, as whilst it's reliable, it's probably as heavy as a more modern 4stroke.

I've had three of the 340/360 model Acti-V models... some of the lightest and easiest to manage SIBs of a reasonable length.

I have no idea of the weight of the Yamaha style 15hp Mariner but I've owned that age/type in both 8hp and 20hp models... both were great robust motors.

The more you get on the sea the more comfortable you'll be with swell and chop... at sensible heights they make it great fun.

Thanks for your words of encouragement Fenlander. Maybe I'll be over your way soon!
