Adhesive Remover for Hypalon?

Hi. I am a new user and new to boating. I just bought a 2005 Novurania DL400 and need to remove old registration stickers and add new. I also want to remove old boat name which was “Ship Four Brains”. Tubes are hypalon. I have not been able to clean the adhesive residue. Any recommendations that are safe on hypalon? Thank you

You might have to try a variety of products to soften the paint/glue. Acetone , mek ,toluene, celullose thinners will all be worth a try with varying results just try a bit on an inconspicuous area first to be sure its not detrimental to the tubes none should harm hypalon but no harm checking first

Thank you. I found this link on hypalon chemical compatibility. It shows Acentone as “C-Fair” and Toluene as “D-Severe Effect”. It showed Alcohols:Isopropyl as “A-Excellent”, so I tried this and no result.

I am about to remove reg stickers too.

Approach it like you would detailing a car.

Start with the least damaging method / product and slowly work your way up .

As he said. Work your way up. A worn fine grade (grey) Scotchbrite and meths should do the job. You could try a magic eraser and meths before as even more gentle. IPA is too gentle but Acetone if meths fails.

Toluene is the thinners used for the glue & is used for cleaning excess glue during manufacture but it does remove some colour from older tubes. Probably no way of knowing what will remove the glue without testing, just need to be careful it will make the tubes tacky initially but it does revert to its original surface texture once dried, you do need to be careful of any dirt on the surface as it will "fix" the dirt into the material

Nylon Brush wheel. I have used them for years and I repair boats professionally. Be very careful with solvents. Toluol or Toluene is generally what is used for hypalon. Feathering the pressure of a nylon wheel is the ticket to remove glue. I sell them on my website solgear.com but you can probably find them elsewhere.

Sorry to bring bad news but you're very unlikely to get the stains form the old glue off. If you're wanting to remove the old logos, heat them with a hot air gun and use a very blunt scraper to get a corner to lift. Tip - use pliers to help grip and pull the logo whilst continuing to use the hot gun to save burning your fingers!

Where the old logo has been, the fabric would have been sanded. This should be covered over and not left exposed. By covering the area, you will then solve the issue of removing the old glue/glue stains.

Hypalon isn't like car paint where you can sand/buff/polish it. I would certainly recommend covering the area. Perhaps a new name badge? Or an over sized wear patch is what I would suggest.

Hope that helps...even if it's not the answer you wanted!
