10 years away...

It was a sad evening, 10 years ago, when we got a call from the marina where our classic SR4 was stored to say that they'd been hit by thieves and our rib was no longer sitting in her spot... sadly never recovered and never replaced... until now!

Earlier this year a colleague at work was looking into getting a rib for his place in Devon and the inevitable happened - helping him out online and tracking down good deals got me totally hooked again and a few months later I found myself rolling down the M3 with Ribtecer's beautifully maintained Solent 540 on the back of my car!

We've spent some great days out so far since picking her up at the end of August:
-Burnham-on-Crouch for 2 days
-Ipswich Yacht Harbour and up the Deben for 2 days
-2 day trips in the Solent, one just last Saturday

Planning on a lot more next year and hopefully see a few of you at a Ribnet cruise or two! Great forum you've got here - made a massive difference in choosing a boat and doing research.

Hi Chris - how shall I put this... my father wasn't one for "fussing" about paperwork so simply never bothered... I know, absolutely crazy, but parents can't be told...

I'm not making the same mistake though!!

... and I thought this thread was going to be a "this is your life story" about being re-united with your stolen SR4 after 10 years by some miracle fluke!

Complete with Eamonn Andrews saying ....and you havent seen her in 10 years, but here she is your long lost SR4!

Oh well, nice replacement RIB (like the engine).

Ha! I wish there was an epic story to tell but alas... I still keep my eyes peeled but no doubt she's been overhauled and looking very different these days, possibly in the hands of a fellow Ribneter who knows nothing regarding the history.

Will post some pics at some stage on the SR4 thread.

Thanks xs400.

I'm hopefully there (or thereabouts) on Saturday! Poole to Lulworth is on the cards.

Mollers has a good tale about reuniting a stolen boat with its owner, many years after the theft.

How about the story, Mollers?

Semi-related note: One item of the earlier flotsam washing up on US shores after the Japanese tsunami was a Boston Whaler (or knock-off) that was found on a northwestern beach (don't recall the state.) It traced to a particular owner in the Sendai region, and last I heard (which was several months ago) plans were underway to reunite the boat with the owner. Symbolic rather than returning equipment, but a nice gesture anyway.
