Zodaic Grand Raid vs Futura

Hi.
I found a Zodiac Mk2 GR at an online auction. I needs repair. Has at least one real big hole. I already have a Futura. Naturally I like Hypalon over PVC but I have never tried a Grand Raid. How does it ride compared to the Futura?

I like how the Futura handles like a gocart on water. I suppose that is thanks to the Speed tubes and the Grand Raid does not have those.

Surprisingly the Mk2 GR seems to be about 11 kg less weight than my Mk2c Futura even though is longer. It is a 2009 model so it has the long shaft transom. Any idea how much this is worth?

It's difficult to compare a Futura with a Grand Raid. The Futura is Strongan Duotex (basically Zodiac's own PVC material) vs a MilPro Grand Raid with hypalon material.

To put this in perspective - Zodiac will sell you this new for over £7k GBP or 8,300 Krona.

Yes the Grand Raid doesn't have speed tubes, but it's designed with heavy duty in mind, inter-communicating valves, bow D rings, HD aluminium floor, long-shaft engine, probably 40hp, fuel bladders, and used by military, rescue and local government agencies alike.

Given you'll never achieve the right temperature or reduced humidity at this time of year then the only way to repair is in a well ventilated and heated garage/workshop with a 2-part glue.

Plenty examples on a web search to gauge prices.

Good input on the different designs on these boats.

Yes, since it has a pretty substantial hole I think I would just have it repaired at a professional shop. But we'll see in a few days what the price will be. The price makes all the difference here.

I loved the 'speed tubes' of my old Futura!

The hydrofoils are coming out now! LOL

Hydrofoils are definitely a step up from speed tubes! Unfortunately they are probably not very well suited to SIBs, although this guy certainly gave it a try. Who wouldn't want a flying (foiling) boat?!?

Well, I passed on this boat. The auction ended at €570 at and I would have had to have it shipped, so it was too much for me. I'm sure it will be good for whoever bought it.
