I think you are right Fenlander.

Seemed plausible about the air floor though, as a river and canal user I have seen some nasty looking submerged metal waiting to slice me open and I wouldn't have seen it in the murky water had the tide been higher.

Nowadays with a rigid hull I worry more about rocks but then they are not good for props either!

Thanks for taking that in good spirit LimeCC. I have nothing at all against Excel apart from their enthusiastic dealer's promotion that may blur a few facts at times.

You are right re river hazards though... always waiting to bite. I guess a two foot gash in a tube or air floor due to underwater debris would be a legit insurance claim.

It's defanately a cheaper fabric hence the weight but will it do what you want looked after a few times a year then yes IMO as I see it for you it's a gap filler or a venture into something different only you know what extent of use, budget is a factor if dosh is no problem get the best is always my thought but top dollar isn't always the best eg on this site there is more repairs to zodiac, bombard re glue issues than any other sib at top price range that proves what I'm saying mid range can be the best for price and longiverty. Performance wise what I've seen in the last 3 years of sibing is no marked difference between the makes in terms of function on trips. A 4 m boat IMO is a great size and very capable I know from expeariance for many years of diving in one.

I think it's not so much that year for year the Zodiac/Bombards suffer glue failure more than cheaper SIBs but that due to their very high costs and used values folks are still expecting them to be sound at double the age where folks might have happily scrapped a Honwave priced SIB.

I just bought a 3.8 m air floor Honwave T38IE2. We have only used it once as it is going to be our caravan boat hopefully on Scottish trips (That is where watching the Gurnards videos gets you ). I was very impressed with the quality and it goes well with out 9.8 hp 2 stroke 2 up. At £1100 how can you go wrong

Yes exactly. When folks are asking which SIB should I get the Honwaves are my go-to choice. Unless folks have a very specific need... for normal UK leisure use... it's hard to advise a 10+yr old Zodiac against a new Honwave under warranty for the same price.

So are we saying out of Quicksilver, Honwave, Excel, Seapro. Sea search and Wetline, that Quicksilver is the best of that bunch?

OMO the reason i bought my mercury [quicksilver] was because its heavy duty made for divers so will take the abuse twice the price of the honwave though, the link below is for the next one up from mine its a bigger boat altogether with a deeper keel than mine and rides well if you look at gurnards boat same but his has longer tube cones. out of your list i would buy mercury/quicksilver again but it has to be trailered 120kg building up every time is a pain in the ar$e
