We saw some kid of trap at the cafe at Dunstaffnage. It looked like some kind of gizmo on top of a large Hoover bag about the size of a dustbin. It was full to bursting with midges😳 That's a LOT of midges.

That's the ones. Yes they're all full to bursting this year. Not a good year for those who have the delicate meat these little bar stewards are after.

We just stayed at Sallachy on Loch Long and it was absolutely beautiful.
We had the Loch pretty much to ourselves, and being a sea Loch you can travel further on the boat if you want.
The road from Sallachy up the Glen of Elchaig was something else (closed to cars after 3 miles but you can walk/cycle right up the Glen)

Hi

Gods country is called that for a reason. Loch lomond is great and far bigger than you think. Oban is great but just south of there is Craobh Marina - Scotland's Gateway to the Isles this is v sheltered and oban is easy as in the crinan etc . it also has v v cheap places to say near by ie the lung estate. you can also cheat and drop the boat in at ardfern which is also well worth a trip.

1 week boating scotland is like trying to explore the best of the EU on 2 hours hence why you will get hundreds of options but rest assured they will all be good so you can not go wrong

As for midges . real men dont have a problem with them. sadly I am a wuss and you deet!

Dave

Lotions are for wummin .. and just make a man smell like one.

IMO .. None of them work .. although.. some may stop them driving their penetrating proboscis under your skin .. even DEET doesn’t stop their pointed feet stamping on your softer exposed parts while swarming all over you. The very thought of midges... make me itching mad.

There is no killing machine as effective as a midge for its size or weight ..swipe one down and another hundred are hovering ready to land on the vacant patch of skin.. they know they have short life spans ..so are willing to risk all for a drink of human blood

Only one way to stop the wee buggers ..klu Klux clan style hoods and jackets with sleeves. Scares the living daylight out of them.

Of course..if you come before June .. you wont see any ..they don’t like cold weather..or wind ... it kills them off or drives them away.

As for Scottish scenery ? You cant really miss it..its all around you in the countryside..so many locals take it for granted.

Aww naw..not that view again ..there must be more to Scotland than that ?

Pretty fair assessment of the situation by the wee fella. But it's not just the Scots.

I was up on the Brora last week drowning a fly. The midges were the worst I've seen , I'm hoping that they're not as bad on the West coast when I head up with the brood in August.....

Where's best to go in Scotland?

I love that rant by Ewan Mcgregor.
